SIN: Skyloft Rooftop Bar & Restaurant {CLOSED}

Big cherry tomatoes and small cheese balls on sticks!

UPDATE (17/06/2014): The eatery has closed down.

Has anyone been to the iFly building in Sentosa? I once stepped my feet into, not to try the indoor skydiving though, but to go to the 5th floor where Skyloft Rooftop Bar & Restaurant runs a business. I went there for a Saturday brunch which menu is available daily from 11.00am to 6.00pm.

Bambini Bocconcini Skewers S$12.00
Taste: 6.5/10

I ordered one of the all-day side dishes as an appetiser. Four skewers of big cherry tomatoes and mozzarella cheese balls, topped with toasted breadcrumbs and balsamic dressing, were arranged neatly on a long plate. Despite the cute appearance of the food, there was nothing to rave about the taste. The cherry tomatoes were indeed big and sweet, but not juicy enough. Besides that, the semi-soft and chewy cheese balls were too small to be enjoyable. The vegetables served on the side were fresh. Pika's advice: I believe you can get something more worth it for S$12.00.

Eggs Benedict S$14.00
Taste: 6/10

Another visually appetising dish, the brunch plate of poached eggs, ham slices and spinach sitting on top of English muffins wasn't really extraordinary. Although the egg yolks were runny, just how I like them to be, the Hollandaise sauce was a bit too tart for my liking. In my opinion, good Hollandaise sauce has to be smooth, creamy and preferably seasoned with a bit of lemon juice; sadly, none of these criteria were achieved that day. Having said that, the semi-dried tomatoes were enjoyably sweet.

Chef's Chili Con Carne Cannelloni S$28.00
Taste: 6.5/10

I rarely eat cannelloni, a cylindrical type of pasta generally served baked with some fillings and covered by sauce. It so happened that I was interested to put the chili con carne into the acid test since it seemed special, bearing the word 'chef's'. Well, the pasta was oven-baked till dry and crispy on the outside, which was alright, but it caused the mozzarella cheese to lose its sticky texture to a large extent. The fillings of minced beef, chili peppers and tomatoes were given pretty generously, but they weren't spicy enough.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 6/10
Overall: 7/10

As much as I'd love to sit on the open deck overviewing Siloso beach, I chose to sit inside since the sun was glaring the other day. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the laid-back ambience which made it difficult to leave the restaurant. Service was, unfortunately, not up to standard. While food delivery was pretty much efficient, the waiter serving us wasn't only taciturn, but also blur. Oh, I wanted to order a glass of mojito, but I killed the idea when I saw the bartender made someone else's in a rather sloppy way. Furthermore, I was also disappointed to know that dessert items were only made after 3.00pm even though it isn't stated in the menu.
