IDN: Calypso Floating Bar @ Nirwana Gardens

Image
Can Bintan Sling beat Singapore Sling? Time seemed to slow down a little bit on our first day at Bintan Island, Indonesia. After enjoying the rejuvenating sea breeze and the soothing sound of waves, we made our way to Calypso Floating Bar, which is located next to a popular seafood restaurant that I'm going to review next. We were just in time for a quick drink before dinner, enjoying the magnificent view of sunset.

A drink with a deep emerald colour? Happy Chinese New Year! At the beginning of the long weekend, we took the time to go to Bintan Island, Indonesia for a 2D1N getaway. We stayed in the rustic Nirwana Beach Club within the Nirwana Gardens Resort.

SIN: Follia Italian Restaurant {CLOSED}

Image
No place for chocolate lava cake, but an orange filled one! UPDATE (13/01/2018):  The restaurant has closed down. After a day of fun at the River Safari with a brief stopover at Mama Panda Kitchen for a quick lunch, my BFF and I decided to check out a relatively new Italian restaurant, which began its operation sometime last year. I also had a chance to interact with the Italian owner, albeit due to an unforeseen situation, which I'm going to elaborate more later.

SIN: Mama Panda Kitchen

Image
Panda bun with smooth red bean filling! After more than 24 months since the arrival of Kai Kai and Jia Jia, the two pandas from China, I finally had the chance to visit them at the River Safari. Mama Panda Kitchen is the only eatery available in the middle of the river-themed zoo, serving fast Chinese food.

SIN: NYDC {CLOSED}

Tennis-sized meatball! UPDATE (09/07/2017):  The restaurant has closed down. When someone mentions NYDC, it always reminds me of one particular evening many years ago. I was hanging out with some of my school friends. One of them, a famous person in the school I won't reveal, was showing such an orgasmic face when he downed a piece of cheesecake. I really wonder if anyone still has the video that one of us captured that day. Haha... :P

SIN: Cheeky Chicky {CLOSED}

Image
Chawanmushi with an unexpected "cheeky twist"! UPDATE (02/05/2016):  The eatery has closed down. Fusion food has, more often than not, appealed to my senses. I chanced upon Cheeky Chicky, an eatery that has a mascot of a fat chick, serving Chinese-Japanese fusion dishes. Each main course, the type of meat is the determining price of the dish, regardless of the sauce and the source of carbohydrates that you pick to go along with the former.

SIN: Watami

Image
Well-balanced beef rice bowl with poached egg! Established in November 2008 in Singapore, the time when I was sitting for my A-Level papers, Watami has grown to 8 outlets across the island. Offering a multitude of food and drinks in its huge menu, the restaurant actively whips up seasonal dishes every now and then.

SIN: Woodshed {CLOSED}

Image
Lighter-than-air waffles and refreshing, fizzy signature drink! UPDATE (08/05/2016):  The caf é  has closed down. Life has started to get hectic again on my side, but I'm gonna try my best to update the blog at least once a week, if not twice. Situated close to the northern end of Rangoon Road is Woodshed, a cosy little café with wood as a central attribute, but sofa seats are also available for those who prefer to lay back.

HKG: Wing Wah Bakery (榮華餅家)

Image
A set of wife cakes with four different flavours! Hello, February! Before I finally go back to write about Singapore eateries, let me finish off the HK-Macau food trip with  lao po bing  (lit. wife cake). Wing Wah Bakery's history dates back to 1950 at one small corner in Yuen Long, a neighbourhood where the famous competitor - Hang Heung Bakery - is. I didn't go to Yuen Long last December, but I bought the cakes from the airport branch while waiting to board the flight SQ861 back to Singapore.
