MMR: Monsoon Restaurant

Image
A taste of Mohinga - Myanmar's national dish! It's time for us to continue with our food journey in Yangon, Myanmar. After having a lot of fun at the zoo and another landmark that I'm going to talk about at the end of the review, we took a cab to the downtown. Alas, the sweltering heat thwarted us from walking around, thus we arrived at Monsoon Restaurant before 12 noon.

You don't just drink tea in Myanmar; you eat it too! March holiday is coming to an end, and that means I shall get back to work tomorrow. It's been pretty much a restful break for me, having the chance to go for a 3D2N trip to another new destination for the year: Yangon, Myanmar. Yeah, today marks the inception of two new labels: {Myanmar - MMR} and Burmese! Our first dinner was at Feel Myanmar Food, a budget eatery that is highly recommended by many for an introduction to authentic Burmese cuisine.

SIN: Vida Vino {CLOSED}

Let's gamble: will you get a spicy padron pepper? UPDATE (02/11/2019):  The restaurant has closed down. As we continued to explore Keong Saik Road, Pasta Inc. and Potato Head Folk being two restaurants we've reviewed previously, we found a quiet Spanish eatery in the early evening of Friday. Literally meaning 'Wine Life', Vida Vino serves an eclectic range of tapas  (small savoury dishes typically served with drinks), as well as a few main courses and dessert items.

Has anyone tried Krabby Patty (SpongeBob SquarePants!) before? Housed in the iconic Ah Tong Building that one cannot miss when walking along Keong Saik Road, Potato Head Folk comprises three establishments, namely Three Buns, Studio 1939 and The Rooftop. On this occasion, I'd like to share with you the food that I had at Three Buns on the 2nd floor, and a beverage that I ordered from Studio 1939 from the 3rd floor.

SIN: Full of Crab {CLOSED}

If you're grouchy, you gotta pay more! :P UPDATE (29/07/2018):  The eatery has closed down. Situated along the bustling East Coast Road (uhm, it kinda reminds me of the unhappy times of working in the previous company near there), Full of Crab is the place to get messy with all the yummy catches of the sea, swimming in a sea of robust sauce. Just like most, if not all, crab houses, the no-utensils policy is in place here.

How did the fusion 'rendang' burger taste? Before taking the scheduled shuttle bus back to the ferry terminal, we decided to check out the resort centre, where visitors can engage themselves in various activities, such as bowling and archery. In contrast to the pleasantly cloudy weather on the first day, the second day was marked with an oppressively hot one. Upon arriving at an eatery called Makan Makan, we were slightly let down by the fact that there wasn't air-conditioning in operation.

Nice blueberry danish in a wide selection of cakes and pastry! I started my first day of Chinese New Year waking up at 5.00am to go to the beach, seeing the last remnants the twinkling stars before the sun rose from the east. My BFF and I were the first people to break the overnight fast after strolling around the hotel area to enjoy the morning breeze.

IDN: The Kelong Seafood Restaurant @ Nirwana Gardens

Springy deep-fried crayfish with butter, but crispy chicken...? Easily the most packed restaurant within Nirwana Gardens, The Kelong Seafood Restaurant is built on stilts, facing the South China Sea. As we forgot to make a reservation earlier, we had no choice but to wait for a table to be vacant, which resulted in us drinking at Calypso Floating Bar before dinner.
