CHN: Golden Garden • East One Spare Ribs (金園•東一排骨)

Delicious mackerel pike fish in a 'lunch box'! Another (and hopefully the last) draft that I've truly forgotten to publish way earlier is this Taiwanese eatery located at the well-known underground shopping mall near the Gongbei Port from which individuals enter Zhuhai from Macau. Anyway, that's quite a long name for an eatery, no?

MFM: Regency Hotel [Breakfast]

Image
Hard-boiled, salted and century eggs to go with porridge! You may ask, "Why Macau again?" Truth be told, I just discovered that I'd been keeping this post as a draft without publishing it earlier, so much for being careless. Regency Hotel (5*) isn't located at the city centre, but it's a quiet hotel nestled in three acres of greenery on Taipa Island.

SIN: Café Etc.

Image
Crab meat spaghetti with Mama Rosa's sauce, anyone? Café Etc. is one of the many eateries along the stretch of Upper Thomson Road. Simple and unassuming in decor, it has been serving a variety of Western dishes since the last quarter of 2013. According to the website at the point of writing, it's looking to open its next outlet this year.

SIN: Mirchi - Taste of India

Image
A delightful tandoori vegetable platter to be shared by many! I can vividly recall a few years ago when I first gave Mirchi - Taste of India a try at their now-defunct restaurant at the transit area of Changi Airport. At that time, I ordered a nice platter of vegetable kebab, as well as rasgulla (Indian cottage cheese balls in sugar syrup). I've just found out recently that they've been in business at Esplanade Mall since 2003.

SIN: Boston Seafood Shack {CLOSED}

Image
Good seafood dinner that, alas, ended very late...  UPDATE (20/05/2016):  The eatery has closed down. After a hectic day at work, I went to The Star Vista with my BFF to have a quick dinner, or so we'd thought. Having known the existence of Boston Seafood Shack since our university days, we finally decided to give it a try. The very first thing that I noted while queueing was the fact that the eatery was severely understaffed.

SIN: Mellben Legend Seafood

Image
Golden sand crab - truly a gold! I've been hearing about the legendary, aptly named Mellben Legend Seafood all these while, but only recently I had the chance to go down to Opal Crescent, a small street situated within walking distance from Potong Pasir MRT station, its new home. I heard that they've been in business for more than 20 years at the time of writing.

SIN: Sixty40 {CLOSED}

D.Y.P. (Design Your Palate) Platter! UPDATE (14/03/2021):  The restaurant has closed down. When I was still studying at NUS as an undergraduate, I enjoyed going down to Rochester Park, a stretch of road not too far from Buona Vista MRT station with many eateries offering not only good food, but also cosy ambience. As I'm now working nearby, I had a chance to drop by the area and had a quiet dinner at one of the restaurants there, namely Sixty40.

SIN: New York Pizza Factory

Image
10" pizza coming your way in 10 minutes! Even though I'm living in Chinatown, I rarely pay China Square Central a visit. Even when I went there, it was just to take a shortcut from one entrance to the other end. New York Pizza Factory is a casual eatery with a few seats, having an open kitchen concept. It seems like its lucky number is 10, for it has ten different pizza flavours to choose from, all 10", served within 10 minutes. Price? S$10.00 each.

MAS: Malaysia Airlines [Economy, International, Short-Haul]

Image
Delightful locally produced chocolate chip cookie onboard!  As I only paid for an upgrade for my outbound KUL-RGN flight, I was seated in the economy class cabin for the return journey. As IFE (In-Flight Entertainment) wasn't available in that particular flight, I spent most of the time reading the magazine provided, as well as taking pictures of clouds.

MAS: Malaysia Airlines [Business, International, Short-Haul]

Burnt sugar cake and 'teh tarik' that made a good end! Two years after I flew Malaysia Airlines for the first time to Osaka, Japan ( read here ), I decided to give it a try again for my short trip to Yangon, Myanmar. Ever since the introduction of MHUpgrade, a platform that allows passengers to offer a bid for an upgrade to the next higher class, I've always wanted to try my hands on it.

SIN: World Street Food Jamboree 2015

Image
Authentic flavours from 12 different cities in the world! Tonight's review is a special one on the jamboree of the 2nd World Street Food Congress by Makansutra , boasting a total of 23 stalls from 12 cities, held here in Singapore from 8 to 12 April 2015. After missing the first one in 2013, I made it a point to go to Bugis just now, no matter how long the queues would be. Here are the dishes I tried in chronological order.

MAS: MH Satellite Golden Lounge @ Kuala Lumpur International Airport

Image
"A sanctuary of peace and tranquility" at KLIA! I flew with Malaysia Airlines from Singapore to Yangon, Myanmar, intentionally giving myself about 3 hours at Kuala Lumpur International Airport for a stop at the Satellite Golden Lounge. Even though I use a lot of labels for this post, which may lead to a fallible conclusion about the spread of food in the lounge, I have to say that I didn't see a wide variety the other day.

MMR: Business Alliance Hotel [Breakfast]

Image
Something like 'laksa bangka' in Yangon, Myanmar! Business Alliance Hotel (3*) is a small hotel located near the most revered Shwedagon Pagoda. It's exactly due to its proximity to the iconic gilded stupa that I decided to book a room there for my very first trip to country's largest city with a population of over five million.

MMR: 999 Shan Noodle Shop

Image
The cheapest dinner with proper seating I've ever had overseas! Located along the 34th street of downtown Yangon, Myanmar is a humble noodle shop of the Shan ethnicity. It's a clean place with a nicely framed New York Times article hung on its wall, recommending none other than this hole-in-the-wall eatery that offers a wide variety of noodle dishes.

MMR: The Strand Café @ Strand Hotel

Image
Burmese high tea with awesome banana cake! Facing the Yangon River is Strand Hotel (5*), a Victorian-style accommodation which building has been around since 1901. It's well-known for its afternoon tea, priced at US$17.00 (~S$23.20) per set, among tourists visiting the city.
