Hello, I'm Cliff Anderson! Why Cliff(y), you ask? Well, a lot of people I've met since primary school till now have always called me Cliffy! Anyway, for every 50 posts I come up with, and every 25,000 pageviews, I'm donating a sum of money to the World Food Programme. Your support is greatly appreciated.

HKG: Sen-ryo (千両)

Sweet and plump scallop sashimi!

Hailing from the Tochigi prefecture of Japan, Sen-ryo combines the traditional elements of sushi making with a touch of art and modernity. Managed by the Genki Sushi group, the motto of the restaurant is "the noble class of sushi".

As my BFF and I'd intended to have lunch elsewhere, we only ordered a few items to share for brunch.

Homemade Fried Egg HK$14.00 (~S$2.50)
Taste: 7.5/10

The reason why I ordered the sweet egg omelette, even though I'm not a big fan of it, is the fact that the restaurant takes the effort to decorate it with its name. Anyway, it was somewhat fluffy and moderately sweet.

Seared Salmon Sushi HK$22.00 (~S$3.95)
Taste: 8.5/10

The aburi sushi was delectable, although the salmon was slightly over-torched, leaving only a little bit of the raw portion as a result. The Japanese rice was bound well, prepared with an adequate amount of vinegar.

Soft-Shell Crab and Avocado Roll HK$46.00 (~S$8.25)
Taste: 6.5/10

I wasn't impressed with the roll, which presentation was actually quite nice. I'd expected the soft-shell crab to be crispy, but sadly that wasn't the case. The avocado was creamy enough for my liking, but it could be fresher.

Scallop Sashimi HK$56.00 (~S$10.05)
Taste: 8.5/10

Look at those plump scallops! Served slightly chilled, they were really fresh. In addition, they were naturally sweet, going very well with a dip of shoyu (Japanese soy sauce). Chewing on them was pure bliss.

Grilled Razor Clams with Butter in Pot HK$68.00 (~S$12.20)
Taste: 8.5/10

The finale was marked by the arrival of the hot pot full of razor clams sitting on a bed of seaweed. Topped with a slab of butter that made the whole dish savoury and aromatic, the clams were enjoyably crunchy and succulent.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Pika's advice: You may want to try their signature Sen-ryo Sushi, which is priced at HK$56.00 (~S$10.05) per piece. Last December, IFC Mall put up a stunning rendition of the North Pole as The Polar Resort. I'd love to live there. :P
