SIN: Charlie's

Flavourful sautéed Spanish pork sausage with olives and gherkins!

One of the many restaurants lining up Boat Quay, Charlie's offers a variety of tapas (small savoury dishes typically served with drinks), along with main courses for those looking for more than small bites. The restaurant-cum-bar is vegetarian friendly.

I ordered one of the tapas items as an appetiser, which is shown below.

Chorizo Salteado S$11.00
Taste: 8/10

The moment I saw chorizo (Spanish pork sausage) as the first entry on the tapas menu, I just had to get it. The delectable sausage slices were sautéed with garlic, gherkins, olives and dried chilis, bound with an adequate amount of olive oil. The result was a happy marriage among the flavours.

Prawn Aglio Olio S$24.00
Taste: 7/10

The pasta main dish came across as pedestrian in terms of flavours. Even though it was cooked with a bit of white wine, it was lacking in garlic bits that'd otherwise make it fragrant. Sprinkled with oregano and parmesan cheese as a finishing touch, it was by no means bad, given the plump and succulent prawns.

Signature Baby Back Ribs (Lighter Portion) S$28.00
Taste: 7/10

Available in two different sizes, lighter and original, the baby back ribs were quite juicy. The signature sauce wasn't as smoky as I thought it'd be though. While the coleslaw was good, the vegetables used for the salad could be fresher and have more of the balsamic vinegar dressing. Some of the fries weren't crispy.

Chocolate Volcano S$12.00
Taste: 8/10

Sitting on top of a rich chocolate brownie was a volcano made of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, topped with a raspberry. If not for the slightly dry outer layer of the cake, the dessert would've scored higher. The chocolate sauce lava did help to moisten that part.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Given another chance to visit Charlie's, I'll probably skip the main courses and order more tapasPika's advice: For interested parties, the restaurant offers Charlie's Platter, comprising pork ribs, lamb skewers, buffalo wings and calamari rings, priced at S$38.00 for 2-4 pax.
