BRN: Bristodeli Café [Takeaway]

Image
How does its signature beef noodle fare? On the day when my BFF and I had to check-out of Badi'ah Hotel , we requested for a slightly later check-out as we'd like to have lunch first in the room before leaving. We bought food from Bristodeli Café, which is located next to the lobby of the hotel. From what I managed to gather from the Internet, it used to be Délifrance.

Wait, there's  天天 鸡饭  in Brunei? Truth be told, even though I live at Chinatown here in Singapore, I've never actually patronised 天天海南鸡饭 (Tian Tian Chicken Rice) at Maxwell Food Centre. Apparently, there's an eatery that goes by almost the same name in Brunei: 天天餐室 (Thien Thien Restaurant), which is also well-known for its chicken rice. I don't think they're related though.

BRN: MyTown Eating House

Where is Tuaran? You can find a dish from that particular town here! MyTown Eating House is a highly rated self-service eatery near Badi'ah Hotel that serves Malaysian cuisine. My BFF and I decided to have a meal there, even though our next destination would be somewhere in Malaysia. The eatery works in collaboration with Justberrys to provide dessert items for its guests.

BRN: Pasar Malam Gadong

Have you heard of 'pais daging' before? Before going back to the hotel to enjoy what we bought from Nasi Katok Mama , my BFF and I dropped by the night market at Gadong. As it caters to mostly locals who drive and do takeaway, there are only very few tables and chairs to sit.

A local fare of rice and chicken with your choice of sauce! An affordable signature dish of Brunei, nasi katok (lit. knock rice) is a simple dish of rice, chicken and chili. As far as I know, it's priced at B$1.00 (=S$1.00) anywhere in the country. As I've been seeing quite a few good reviews of Nasi Katok Mama that has several branches in town, I decided to share two variants with my BFF.

BRN: Ayamku Restaurant [Takeaway]

Huge spring chicken with rice and refreshing pickles! During the holy month of Ramadan, each and every eatery in Brunei is forbidden to serve dine-in customers as part of the Islamic penal code of the country. As such, my BFF and I had to do takeaway a few times during our stay last June. Ayamku (lit. My Chicken) is a local fast-food chain.

BRN: Badi'ah Hotel [Breakfast]

Nothing to rave about, save for the velvety barley congee! My BFF and I stayed at Badi'ah Hotel (4*) for 4D3N. The hotel has got two restaurants, one of which used to be Delifrance, but it has since been replaced by Bristodeli Café. Let's take a look at what was offered on the buffet line during breakfast.

BRN: Aminah Arif Restaurant

A taste of the entirely tasteless national dish of Brunei! How many of you know about ambuyat ? While I've heard about the dish since young, it was only last month that I finally got to try that blob of flavourless starch made from the interior trunk of sago palms. Aminah Arif Restaurant is said to be one of the best places to sample this particular local delicacy.

At least the sago pudding was pretty nice~ I'm pretty sure you can immediately guess where my BFF and I'd be going by looking at the title of the review. We decided to fly one way with the flag carrier of the Sultanate of Brunei from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei and to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia as it was much cheaper compared to starting our journey from Singapore.

MAS: Plaza Premium Lounge @ Kuala Lumpur International Airport

Image
Disappointing breakfast items, but pretty good chicken rice for lunch! As I'm holding a Priority Pass membership, thanks to one of the credit cards I'm holding, I decided to make use of it by going to the Plaza Premium Lounge at the satellite terminal of Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

MAS: Kentucky Fried Chicken

Take your pick for breakfast: rice or porridge? From now on, I shall write about my food adventure during the June holidays that have just passed. Let's start with the very early breakfast that my BFF and I had at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. We went for something light as we'd be dropping by at Plaza Premium Lounge after passing though the immigration later on.

SIN: Ippudo

Motto: "To continuously innovate to remain true" Ippudo was founded in 1985 in Hakata, Japan. One fine afternoon on my mom's birthday, I brought her for a lunch. We happened to be in the west that day, so I brought her to Ippudo at Westgate as she likes ramen. During lunch time, you can have the  Lunch Set Menu  with a top-up of  S$5.00  to your ramen order in order to enjoy one side dish and one drink.
