INA: Batik Air ID7157 (Economy)

Simple sweet and savoury snacks to munch on~ My December 2017 trip ended with a virgin flight with Batik Air that's owned by the Lion Air Group headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia. Unlike Lion Air, it's a full service airline. For the short-haul flight from Jakarta to Singapore and vice versa, snacks are provided for Economy Class passengers. They're included in the ticket price.

IDN: Pondok Laguna

Crispy deep-fried carp with delicious 'sambal cobek'! If there's anything I miss from Indonesia, it's Sundanese cuisine. For the uninitiated, the Sundanese are native to the western part of the island of Java. Before leaving for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, my BFF and I made a stop at Pondok Laguna, which isn't far from Yello Hotel Harmoni . We had a satisfying lunch there.

Say "Yello!" to yummy local dishes for breakfast! My BFF and I spent a night at the trendy Yello Hotel Harmoni (3*) in Jakarta, Indonesia before flying back to Singapore the following day. Given that yellow is its corporate colour, it's apt that the hotel serves nasi kuning (Indonesian yellow rice) at the buffet counter for breakfast.

Pick your favourite: mixed fruit juice or vanilla date smoothie? The transit at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia didn't seem interminable, thankfully. About ten minutes after my BFF and I walked out of Alfursan Lounge , the boarding call for the flight to Jakarta, Indonesia was made. Let's take a look at the food and drinks served onboard.

Free-flow naturally sweet, caramel-like Sukariya dates! Welcome to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia! My BFF and I couldn't possibly go out of the airport, of course, although we had about five hours to kill before catching the next flight to Jakarta, Indonesia. As there wasn't much to do at the boring terminal building, we spent most of the time at Saudia's Alfursan Lounge.

Trying Arabic coffee for the very first time in my life! After having a moment of relaxation at the SkyTeam Lounge at Istanbul Ataturk Airport, it was finally time for my BFF and me to leave Turkey. Our virgin experience with Saudia, the flag carrier of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was a memorable one. Let's take a look at what were served for Business Class passengers on the short-haul flight from Istanbul to Jeddah.

TRY: SkyTeam Lounge @ Istanbul Ataturk Airport

Best item: Asian style fried noodle! It was hard to say goodbye to my sister. There wasn't any teary moments, but we eventually parted ways as I walked to the immigration control area, ready to leave the country. Given that my BFF and I'd be travelling in the Business Class of Saudia, we were able to make use of the chic, yet small SkyTeam Lounge before flying off.

TRY: Choppers Point

Sizzling hot Turkish beef sausages~ My BFF and I found ourselves back at WOW Istanbul Hotel to spend our last night in Istanbul, Turkey (although we booked a room that didn't include breakfast). For dinner, we went to Choppers Point, a cool-looking biker-themed restaurant within a short walking distance from the hotel.

TRY: Camlica Sosyal Tesisleri

Image
Have you heard of Noah's Pudding before? With the help of my sister, my BFF and I finally crossed the Bosphorus Strait and climbed to the peak of Camlica Hill. We had dinner at the one and only restaurant up there, which is run by the government. There's a cover charge of only  ₺1.00 (~S$0.30)  per person.

TRY: Amedros Café

Image
A non-alcoholic cocktail with Blue Curaçao? My hope of having a particular dish I've been longing for at  Spectra CafĂ© & Restaurant was dashed when I got to know that it has closed down. Online search brought me to Amedros CafĂ©, a highly rated eatery with impeccable service that has been around since 1995.

TRY: Saray Muhallebicisi

Image
Why stop at one dessert item? Ever since I first tried  kunefe  (Turkish wiry cheese pastry) three years ago in Selcuk, a small town in Western Turkey that's near the ancient city of Ephesus, I've fallen in love with it. Of course, my sister knows where to get a nice one in Istanbul. Off we went to Saray Muhallebicisi somewhere along the bustling Istiklal Street.

TRY: Yuksel Uygur Restaurant

Image
Fancy some Xinjiang dishes with ingredients like 'udon' and 'kimchi'? Yuksel Uygur Restaurant is my sister's to-go place whenever she's craving for Chinese food. As the name of the restaurant suggests, it serves  Halal  Chinese dishes. For the uninitiated, the majority of the Uygurs, who are primarily Muslims, live in Xinjiang, China.

TRY: Gulhane Park Hotel [Breakfast]

Image
A wide array of Turkish and Western cold dishes! My BFF and I spent three nights at Gulhane Park Hotel (4*) in Sultanahmet, which is conveniently located near Sirkeci Marmaray station. Look forward to the colourful spread of cold dishes served for breakfast every morning, which is the (only) highlight of the buffet line.
