UGA: Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Fried fish caught from the lake with nice dry rub!

My BFF and I had the opportunity to visit Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which is located somewhere in Lake Victoria. We booked a day trip inclusive of lunch at the island with African Adventure Travellers. Due to the rain earlier, our late arrival at the island caused us to have a late lunch at around 3.30pm.

Take you pick: chicken or fish? Each is accompanied by a simple avocado salad.

Chicken Main Course
Taste: 6.5/10

You can choose between rice and fries to go with your choice of protein. We decided to have some rice with the roasted chicken, which was actually quite flavourful, but somewhat dry. The homemade tomato sauce, which was fresh enough for my liking, did help to moisten the white meat.

Fish Main Course
Taste: 7.5/10

The fried fish option was better. Even though the batter could be slightly thinner, the fish was adequately succulent and firm. I especially liked the dry rub that was really aromatic, thanks to turmeric, rosemary and garlic. Alas, the mildly salted fries weren't crispy.

Fruits

At the end of the meal, each of us had a plate of watermelon and pineapple slices. There was nothing to rave about the former, but the latter were the sweetest I've ever had thus far.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The food might not be superlative, but I really enjoyed my lunch given such a cooling island breeze. Pika's advice: You can get alcoholic drinks at the eatery.
