UAE: Noodle Bowl

Legit Southeast Asian food in Abu Dhabi!

I love puns, do you? Noodle Bowl, a restaurant serving a plethora of dishes close to the heart of Southeast Asians, is located inside Abu Dhabi's Bowling Centre at Zayed Sports City. In addition to substantial main courses, the restaurant also offers all-day dim sum items.

Sitting on the table behind me was a Malaysian family who really enjoyed their meal.

Fish Cheong Fun AED 20.00 (~S$7.40)
Taste: 8/10

I believe that was the most expensive chee cheong fun (Chinese rice noodle roll) dish I've ever had thus far. It was also my first time having the sliced fish version, which was fulfilling as the fish wrapped in the chewy rice noodle roll was adequately fresh. The soy sauce was nothing short of flavourful.

Nasi Goreng AED 32.00 (~S$11.80)
Taste: 8/10

The Indonesian fried rice was executed well, though I'd love to have more of the sliced beef and shrimps. I could tell that it was cooked with dark soy sauce instead of kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) though, but tasty nonetheless. It was garnished with a sunny-side up egg, fried shallots and pickles.

Braised Seafood Noodle AED 36.00 (~S$13.30)
Taste: 9/10

The star of the dinner was the sumptuous braised seafood noodle cooked with oyster sauce. It was a delight to slurp the moist noodle that had a satisfying balance of the sweet and the savoury. In addition to prawns, squid and fish, there were juicy mushrooms, snow peas, onions and carrots.

Mango Sago AED 15.00 (~S$5.55)
Taste: 7/10

I was rather disappointed when the dessert of mango sago came first before everything else, even though I'd requested for it to be delivered to the table after the meal. Besides that, it was served just slightly below room temperature. Having said that, it tasted fine, but perhaps it could be just slightly less sweet.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 6.5/10
Overall: 7/10

The restaurant is located on the second floor of the building. Pika's advice: They don't sell crabs, but they sell Singapore Chili Sauce Prawn that costs AED 58.00 (~S$21.45) if you really need a fix of the sweet, savoury and spicy tomato-based sauce.
