SIN: Place to R.E.A.D

Virgin experience with squid stuffed with feta cheese!

Situated along the bustling Prinsep Street near PoMo, Place to R.E.A.D isn't a restaurant where you can find books to read while waiting for your food to come, but it's simply a place to 'Relax, Eat and Drink'. It boasts a selection of Greek cuisine, as well as fusion dishes.

My BFF and I decided to have dinner al fresco.

Grilled Stuffed Squid with Feta Cheese S$20.00
Taste: 7.5/10

The stuffed squid dish is actually listed under main course, but we decided to have it as an appetiser. The two medium-sized squid were acceptably fresh and grilled well, but the feta cheese filling wasn't that crumbly. In fact, the feta cheese topping wasn't soft and thus we put it aside. A small bowl of salad was served as a side dish.

Moussaka S$22.00
Taste: 8/10

We uninanimously decided to share the Greek oven-baked beef and eggplant casserole for one of the main courses, which was also served with a side salad.

The blend of grilled eggplants, minced beef, tomatoes and cheese was a delight on the taste buds. There was a nice sweet-sour-savoury balance.

Cream of Truffle Oil and Wild Mushroom Pasta S$17.00
Taste: 6.5/10

We also tried one of the cream-based spaghetti sans meat. Such a generous amount of cream, don't you think? The mushrooms were pretty juicy and earthy, and I was glad that the truffle oil wasn't overpowering. Having said that, it was a pity that a few of the spaghetti strands were a tad dry.

Molten Chocolate Cake S$12.00
Taste: 7.5/10

Hands up if you love lava cake! The vanilla ice cream scoop was bigger than the cake served that evening, drizzled with quite a generous amount of chocolate sauce.

I was rather disappointed to see that the chocolate sauce wasn't flowing when I cut open the cake. Nevertheless, the cake was moist and the chocolate flavour was rich enough for my liking.

Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

It seems like the people behind Place to R.E.A.D also run the nearby Der Biergarten Restaurant and Bar at 48 Prinsep Street. Pika's advice: You may be interested in another Greek dish called Greek Prawn Saganaki. Priced at S$19.00, it's a dish of prawns sautéed in olive oil and finished off with tomato relish, feta cheese and herbs.
