My introduction to French style ravioli!
Bar-Roque Grill brings a taste of France with a menu deeply rooted in Chef Stéphane's cherished memories of his home in Alsace. The restaurant at Tanjong Pagar takes pride in sourcing their beef from O'Connor farms in Gippsland in the southeastern part of Australia, and dry-aging their cuts in-house.
Tenderloin Black Angus S$58.00
Taste: 8.5/10
Of course I had to put their 220 grams of tenderloin into the acid test. Flame-kissed over high heat with Argentinian charcoal, the red meat had a nice char on the outside while staying juicy within, carrying a subtle smoky aroma. beneath the steak lay a silky bed of mashed potatoes that offered a creamy, buttery contrast.
Grilled Octopus S$32.00
Taste: 8/10
Resting atop a medley sautéed zucchini and bell peppers, and complemented by a swirl of light aioli, the grilled octopus offered a satisfying chew. Its natural sweetness was truly lifted by a dash of lemon juice. Served on the side was a mound of fresh, peppery rocket leaves, topped with cherry tomatoes and shaved almonds.
Raviole Royan S$16.00
Taste: 8.5/10
A specialty of the Dauphiné region in southeastern France, Raviole Royan is traditionally filled with Comté cheese, herbs and cream. At Bar-Roque Grill, I enjoyed the pasta pockets filled with Gruyère cheese instead. They were finished in velvety cream sauce topped with sliced mushrooms, chopped chives and croutons. Pika's advice: You can also enjoy this dish as a main course at double the price.
Créme Brûlée S$16.00
Taste: 8/10
Served chilled in a terracotta ramekin, the classic custard dessert was done right. The caramelised sugar top wasn't too hard to break, giving way to silkyl custard infished with Madagascar vanilla. Not being too sweet, it was dusted with castor sugar, as well as topped with a slice of strawberry and mint leaf.
