SIN: Sarai Fine Thai

Affordable crab meat curry that pleased the taste buds!

Here's the last post for 2025 as the year gently draws to a close, hopefully filled with moments of peace and comfort for all of us. Formerly known as Patara Fine Thai Cuisine, which had been a stalwart at Tanglin Mall since its opening in 1995, Sarai Fine Thai emerged in 2019 after a thoughtful renovation and rebranding.

Despite the refreshed look and new name, the restaurant continues to be helmed by the same head chef hailing from Isan in the northeastern region of Thailand.

Appetiser Platter S$29.00
Taste: 8/10

Truly a feast for the eyes, the appetiser platter offered a well-rounded introduction to bite-sized Thai delights. I especially enjoyed the golden fried prawns that delivered a satisfying crunch and the tender chicken skewers generously doused in rich coconut-based sauce. Rounding out the platter were crisp spring rolls filled with shrimp and vegetables, alongside delicately handcrafted flower dumplings filled with mushrooms and chives.

Crab Meat in Yellow Curry S$29.00
Taste: 8.5/10

I don’t often eat crab meat curry, and so I'm glad I made the right choice. Served hot in a brass pot, it leant more towards fragrant comfort than fiery intensity. Its gentle profile allowed the natural sweetness of the crab meat to shine through, complemented by aromatic herbs that added depth. It was the kind of dish that slowly grew on me with every spoonful.

Black Olive Fried Rice S$22.00
Taste: 8/10

As it'd also been a while since I last had olive fried rice, I decided to order it. The subtly darkened rice was topped with a generous scattering of toasted cashew nuts, chopped shallots, chili and lime that cut through the richness of the savoury base. The dish was completed with well-marinated chicken chunks.

Dessert Platter S$29.00
Taste: 7.5/10

Though not as amazing as expected, it was a beautiful dessert tour to end the meal on a sweet note. The pandan crème brûlée was quite aromatic with caramelised sugar top that cracked neatly. There was also the much-loved mango sticky rice drizzled with coconut cream, as well as chilled tapioca in coconut milk. The squares of baked durian cake paired well with vanilla ice cream.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10

Apparently, the restaurant also serves sautéed whole lobster. Pika's advice: Spoilt for choice and feeling indecisive? You may want to consider their Rediscovery Lunch Menu at S$68.00 per pax or Rediscovery Dinner Menu at S$78.00 per pax to help you narrow down the options.
