LAO: Lotus Villa Boutique Hotel [Breakfast]
Made-to-order breakfast in a tranquil setting!
Established in 2008, Lotus Villa Boutique Hotel (3*), offers within fifteen rustic rooms and two suites in its cosy property. It is a mere one block away the Mekong River and close to Wat Xieng Thong, an important Buddhist temple that's the icon of Luang Prabang. The hotel serves a la carte buffet.
Rice Soup with Pork
The hotel rotates its daily Laotian special. On the first morning, I had the chance to savour the hearty pork congee topped with pepper, herbs and lime juice. While there could be more generous with the minced pork, the thickness of the congee was just right for me.
Khao Soy
The local rice noodle soup dish is available daily. What I found inside the bowl that morning, apart from the chewy flat rice noodle, were minced pork, tomatoes and coriander leaves. The sweetness from the tomatoes married the natural lime juice well. Despite its colour, it wasn't spicy.
Omelette with Toast
I chose to have the complete package for my omelette: cheese, chili, tomatoes, spring onions and coriander leaves. While it might not look that appetising, I really enjoyed its moist centre together with the white and wholemeal toasts.
Scrambled Eggs with French Toast
Alas, the scrambled eggs fell below my expectations as they were overly done, but still retained some moisture nonetheless. The French toasts with cinnamon powder and honey at the side were nothing special, but good enough.
Fruits
Look at those fresh-looking fruits on the table! In particular, the watermelon, papaya and mango were bursting with natural sweetness. The same could be said for the pineapple, but it was a bit drier. The sweet banana further fueled me for the adventurous day ahead.
Lao Mulberry Green Tea & Mixed Fruit Juice
For the beverages, I gave the mulberry green tea a try, which turned out to be calming and heart-warming in such a breezy morning. The mixed fruit juice was made of real fruits, not cordial.
