Big bowl of 'soba' with sweet pork belly and fish cake! We've finally come to the last post on Okinawa, Japan, at least for now. On the last evening of our trip, my BFFs and I chanced upon a  tonkatsu  (Japanese breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet) restaurant at the Paretto building near Hotel Sun Okinawa where we stayed at.

JPN: Shuri Soba (首里そば)

Big bowl of soba with sweet pork belly and fish cake! If you're looking for a hearty bowl of the Okinawan soba (Japanese buckwheat noodle), Shuri Soba is the place to go as it's highly recommended by the locals, so famous that it only needs to open its door for lunch from Monday to Saturday. Apart from ourselves, my BFFs and I didn't see other international tourists that afternoon.

Yakult galore - not just the drink! Conveniently situated near Kencho-Mae monorail station, probably about 3-minute walk away, Hotel Sun Okinawa (3*) boasts its spacious public bath. It's also an easy walk to the famed Kokusai Street with its eclectic mix of stores and restaurants.

'Cheese of the Orient', anyone? :P Done exploring the central and northern part of Okinawa, Japan, my BFFs and I spent the last three days in Naha, the capital city of the prefecture. After the memorable dinner at Rinken's Kitchen, we decided to discover more of Okinawan cuisine at Machinuya, which is walkable from Miebashi monorail station.

The best chocolate danish ever encountered in buffet breakfast! Such a long name for a hotel, don't you think? The 4* hotel is located in a quiet vicinity somewhere in the central of Okinawa, Japan. An indoor swimming pool is available at the hotel, which means guests can enjoy a dip even during winter.

JPN: Blue Seal (ブルーシール)

"Born in America, raised in Okinawa" :) What a catchy slogan, don't you think? The history of Blue Seal can be traced back to 1948 as a factory to supply dairy products for the US military personnel stationed in Okinawa, Japan at that time. It is now a famous ice cream chain that can practically be found everywhere throughout Okinawa.

Nice thick porridge with moist salmon~ Hotel Yugaf Inn Bise (3*) is situated right in front of the Ocean Expo Park where the Churaumi Aquarium is. The room where my BFFs and I stayed in has not only Western-style beds, but also tatami floor with mattresses.

A homely eatery scoring 9/10 overall! :D Welcome to Okinawa, Japan! Our first destination was the Churaumi Aquarium, which is Japan's best that's second only to the Georgia Aquarium in the USA in terms of size. Located near Loisir Hotel Okinawa Churaumi is an unassuming eatery serving delicious home-cooked food.

HKG: Po Lin Monastery Vegetarian Kitchen

Vegetarian treat after climbing up to the Big Buddha! I just found the lines from the website to be pretty interesting: "After a visit to the Big Buddha and having climbed up and down the long flight of stone steps, you will be forgiven for feeling a bit weak and sore in the legs. Nothing would beat a lull and a cup of tea in the monastery’s vegetarian kitchen and enjoy the special delicacy of vegetarian dishes of the monastery." :)

A happy reunion with Georgian food! Ever since I came back from my trip to Georgia in 2018, I've been missing the unique cuisine, occasionally dreaming about it. As I knew I'd finally be back to the Caucasus region, albeit to a neighbouring country, I couldn't contain my excitement of finding a Georgian restaurant. Imereti Georgian House is located not far from Baku's Fountain Square.
