A 24-hour  café  with affordable simple food at First World Hotel! I finally managed to stay at First World Hotel (3*) during my short getaway to Genting Highlands, Malaysia. For the uninitiated, the hotel has set the Guinness World Record for the largest hotel in the world in terms of the total number of rooms, which is 7,351 at the point of writing. As the room that I booked didn't come with breakfast, my family and I went for a quick breakfast at 1 Meter Teh early in the morning before catching our bus back to Singapore.

MAS: QiQi Taiwan Cuisine

What a disgrace to Taiwanese food! The want for a simple and quick dinner at Genting Highlands, Malaysia led me to QiQi Taiwan Cuisine that's located at one of the corners of First World Plaza. Thinking that I'd be able to get my food fast due to the lack of crowd, I suppose it was a wrong move to have ever stepped into the restaurant.

MAS: Coffee Terrace [Buffet]

Mind-boggling international buffet spread! I first knew about Coffee Terrace many years ago from a TV programme in Indonesia (sorry, I can't recall the name of the programme). Finally I got a chance to step into the restaurant for lunch when I did a side trip to Genting Highlands during my KL trip. There are six different stalls : Western, Japanese, Western Asian, Chinese, Nyonya and Local Favourite, in addition to the dessert section. Plain water is included in the buffet.

Not a single visit to Japan without 'ekiben'! A portmanteau of eki (lit. station) and bento (Japanese meal box), ekiben  has long been an icon of Japanese culinary culture. I know the meal boxes are served at room temperature, but I'm always drawn to them, thanks in part to their exquisite presentation. My family bought some from Ekiben Tabi Bento situated within Kyoto station to savour them for lunch, not inside a train, but in the comfort of our hotel room.
