JPN: Sekai No Yamachan (世界の山ちゃん)

Image
Do their signature chicken wings live up to the hype? Yet another popular delicacy in Nagoya that one should not miss is deep-fried  tebasaki (lit. chicken wings). Since its humble beginnings in 1980 with only 13 seats, Sekai No Yamachan is a name that stands out among locals and visitors alike, offering delectable chicken wings with bold flavours.

COL: Avianca Lounge @ El Dorado International Airport

Image
Hearty pumpkin soup, but no Colombian food... My BFF and I'd be flying back to Singapore via Istanbul, Turkey with Turkish Airlines. As the first leg of our journey would be in Business Class, we enjoyed access to the flagship lounge of Avianca, the flag carrier of Colombia, at the principal international gateway of Bogota. Who could resist a glass of Baileys before a flight?

CAN: AG Inspired Cuisine

Image
"A true farm-to-table experience!" A culinary gem in the heart of the Niagara Falls area, AG Inspired Cuisine is proudly named one of Canada's top fine-dining restaurants. Helmed by Executive Chef Cory Linkson, the menu celebrates contemporary Canadian cuisine that highlights the freshness of seasonal ingredients. My BFF and I went for the Three Course Menu priced at  C$99.00 (~S$97.90)  per person.

SIN: GOPIZZA

Image
Yummy pizza, but too sweet a spaghetti dish... Born as a food truck store in Seoul's Yeouido Night Goblin Market in 2016, GOPIZZA rapidly expanded to 30 pop-up stores at top department stores across South Korea within half a year. Today, it has surpassed 100 outlets in four countries. I found myself compelled to try its offerings when I was at Suntec City Mall.

SIN: Supply & Demand

Image
Will the supply of Italian food ever exceed its demand? Welcome to the first post on the Singapore food scene for the year! One fine day while wandering about the Esplanade Mall, my uncle and I decided to go to Supply & Demand, a modern Italian trattoria with a rooftop bar, for dinner. Here's a fun fact: I didn't take Economics when I was in Junior College, but at least I'm aware of supply and demand curves.

TRY: Turkish Airlines Lounge @ Istanbul Airport

Image
Blown away by the delicious local and international food! Thanks to airline miles, my BFF and I'd be flying in style with Turkish Airlines, though not directly to Singapore. Because of that, we also had the opportunity to visit Turkish Airlines Lounge at the new Istanbul Airport in the Arnavutkoy region, trying all sorts of dishes and beverages offered inside the massive lounge.

SIN: Elemen {Christmas 2021}

Image
Motto: "Love Self, Love Earth" A modern dining concept focusing on creative interpretation of vegetarian cuisine, Elemen promotes a more harmonious and sustainable environment through its wholesome dishes. It offers value-for-money multi-course meals, with each item being meticulously prepared using natural, meatless ingredients.

SIN: Yummo Chow

Image
Do you fancy deep-fried ice cream? Nestled inside one of the conserved pre-war shophouses near the flagship national library of Singapore, Yummo Chow is a cosy little restaurant that you may want to go to if you feel like having deep-fried ice cream. It may not have too obvious a sign from the outside, so it's easier to look for Hotel NuVe Heritage that houses it.

SIN: Lime Restaurant

Image
Manjari chocolate bomb with yuzu, anyone? Renowned as a hotel-in-a-garden, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering (5*) has been enticing me to have a staycation with them all along. However, its proximity from home always deters me from taking the plunge. Anyway, I had the opportunity to have lunch with a friend at its only restaurant called Lime Restaurant.

SIN: The White Rabbit {CLOSED}

Image
Grab a seat for a memorable meal before it's gone! UPDATE (03/02/2023):  The restaurant has closed down. No, we're not talking about the creamy candy from China. Housed in a restored 1930s chapel on Dempsey Hill, The White Rabbit has been serving modern European cuisine with a lovely ambience since 2008. Together with The Rabbit Hole, a whimsical gin garden bar, it's going to give way for a new concept slated to launch in late 2021.

SIN: Chug Chug

Image
"Where friends become family" Chug Chug is a gastrobar located in the heart of Tanjong Pagar. As the owner is a lover of fusion food, it's "constantly experimenting and coming up with new dishes, keeping [its] menu fresh for customers." Needless to say, it also offers a wide selection of alcoholic drinks, but I found myself chugging a non-alcoholic beverage instead during my visit.

SIN: Epiphyte

Image
Edible terrarium, anyone? An epiphyte is a non-parasitic plant that grows on another plant, which makes a good houseplant due to the minimal water and soil requirements. Located in Tanjong Pagar, the gastropub that shares the same name as this particular type of plant has a lovely decor and whips up visually stunning dishes too.

MAS: David Brown's Restaurant & Tea Terrace

Image
Not so often you'll get a main course with curly fries as a side! Perched on Strawberry Hill, one of the peaks of Penang Hill in Malaysia, is a cosy place to have a meal and/or sip a cup of tea in a British colonial building. There are also some seats outside for those who prefer to enjoy the view of the lush greenery surrounding the restaurant. My group went there to celebrate my mother's birthday during the trip.

SIN: Roo's Gastrobar

Image
The 'greener fries': beer-battered long beans! Roo's Gastrobar is a casual, yet chic dining place at Frankel Avenue lined with landed properties. Marketing itself as "your neighbourhood hangout", it offers a variety of food and drinks, including brunch items on weekends. There's also a pool table if you feel like challenging your buddies to a game.

SIN: Erwin's Gastrobar

Image
Classic main courses done right! Named after the Italian founder's grandfather, Ervino Breitner, Erwin's Gastrobar is inspired by bars and cafés of Italian origins that can be found in financial districts of New York City, the USA. It seems to be a pretty popular place for those working in the CBD area to unwind after a hard day at work.

SIN: Place to R.E.A.D

Image
Virgin experience with squid stuffed with feta cheese! Situated along the bustling Prinsep Street near PoMo, Place to R.E.A.D isn't a restaurant where you can find books to read while waiting for your food to come, but it's simply a place to 'Relax, Eat and Drink'. It boasts a selection of Greek cuisine, as well as fusion dishes.

SIN: Winestone

Image
Truly enjoyable pizza, if only it wasn't burnt on the edges... Winestone is one of the restaurants housed inside Novotel Singapore on Stevens located to the north of the bustling Orchard Road. The name of the restaurant reflects the two elements of the restaurant: the huge wine selection and the signature stone boards.

SIN: Slappy Cakes

Image
How about lavender-infused honey on your pancake? Hailing from Portland, Oregon's largest city in the USA, Slappy Cakes has become one of the most popular breakfast spots there that offers an experience to make your own pancake right at your table. At the point of writing, there are three branches here in Singapore. I visited the one at Plaza Singapura a while ago.

SIN: SONS {CLOSED}

Image
Black baccala cakes with tasty sea urchin sauce! UPDATE (12/10/2021):  The eatery has closed down. Happy belated birthday, Melon! Her birthday is actually on 3 October, but I simply didn't have the time to go out for a meal last Thursday as there were lots of work to clear. SONS is a trendy trattoria-cum-bar housed inside one of the heritage-chic shophouses of Nankin Row in Chinatown.

CAN: Jasper Brewing Company

Image
Happy marriage between blueberries and vanilla in an ale! Founded in the spring of 2005, Jasper Brewing Company was the very first brewery established in a national park in Canada. In addition to offering a range of beers on tap, wines and cocktails, the pub whips up some light and big bites catering to different palates.
