SIN: Restaurant PeraMakan

Let's 'makan' (lit. eat) at PeraMakan! A play on the word Peranakan, Restaurant PeraMakan near Farrer Park MRT station takes diners on a culinary journey through fusion dishes born from the intermingling of Chinese, Malay and Indonesian cultures. The brand was founded in 2004 by Kathryn Ho, a fourth generation Nyonya of Malacca and Penang parentage.

Possibly the one and only time I got to dine onboard a grounded aircraft! Singapore Airlines originally planned to launch the so-called 'flights to nowhere' to earn a bit of revenue after being crippled by COVID-19. However, due to the growing environmental concerns raised by quite a few parties, it called off the plan. To make up for that, it has decided to come up with a pop-up restaurant using one of its Airbus 380-800 aircraft for two weekends.

SIN: O'nya Sayang {CLOSED}

Mouth-watering spicy prawns on a hotplate that could be fresher... UPDATE (13/07/2020):  The restaurant has closed down. I can't believe that my last review on Peranakan cuisine is dated all the way back to 2014. That was when I visited Melaka, Malaysia. To break this hiatus, I'm going to write about O'nya Sayang (lit. love of a Peranakan mother) that I chanced upon when I was at Tampines.

MAS: Ole Sayang

Stir-fried squid that reminded me of home~ Prior to the trip, I had been searching day and night for a restaurant that serves good and authentic Peranakan cuisine. Listed as one of the original Peranakan restaurants in town, Ole Sayang was the place of choice for dinner during our 2D1N trip. One of the reasons is its close proximity to Midcity Hotel Melaka where we were staying in.

The best 'asam laksa' I've ever had in my life! After our late lunch at Kedai Kopi Chung Wah , we walked down the crowded Jalan Hang Jebat, which is also commonly known as Jonker Street. Every Friday and Saturday evening. it turns into a bustling night market. Our aim was to find an eatery that's well-known for its tasty Peranakan dishes.

SIN: Flee Away Café {CLOSED}

Have you ever had 'you tiao' with dry 'laksa'? UPDATE (26/02/2017):  The café has closed down. Nestled in the busy district of Little India, Flee Away Café calls for customers to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life in its place full of antiques. It has a small section of its menu dedicated to fusion dishes.

MAS: Coffee Terrace [Buffet]

Mind-boggling international buffet spread! I first knew about Coffee Terrace many years ago from a TV programme in Indonesia (sorry, I can't recall the name of the programme). Finally I got a chance to step into the restaurant for lunch when I did a side trip to Genting Highlands during my KL trip. There are six different stalls : Western, Japanese, Western Asian, Chinese, Nyonya and Local Favourite, in addition to the dessert section. Plain water is included in the buffet.

Kueh pie tee, anyone? I'm going to write just a short review today... School is driving me crazy; I have tons of assignments piling up on my desk, not to forget the two Chemistry mid-term exams I'm going to sit for next week. Anyway, after the first CCA session of the semester at Geylang Methodist Primary School in the morning, I dropped by the World Food Fair 2011 at the Suntec City Convention Centre and bought a few kueh pie tee  from a stall run by Red Lips, one of the leading suppliers of kueh pie tee  cups in Singapore.
