SIN: IKEA Restaurant

Image
I prefer their flaky salmon to the meatballs! When people mention about IKEA, I bet these are among the first two things that come to mind: furniture and Swedish meatballs. IKEA first opened its doors in Singapore along Alexandra Road in 1978. Truth be told, the first time I tried their famed meatballs wasn't actually at home, but during one my trips to HK.

FIN: Ravintola Zetor

Image
Taking pride in being a "110% Finnish restaurant"~ Before leaving Helsinki, Finland, my BFF and I had our last dinner at Ravintola Zetor near Helsinki Central Station. Serving classic Finnish dishes, the restaurant was declared open on the country's 74th anniversary on 6 December 1991. I suspect it's the only restaurant in the world with its menu written in 21 different languages.

FIN: Ravintola Sea Horse

Image
Delicious herring steak, but salty Scandinavian hash... Ravintola Sea Horse is a well-known restaurant in Helsinki, Finland that has been in operation since 1934. Famous for its Baltic herring steak and other traditional dishes, the restaurant is colloquially known as  Sikala (lit. The Pigsty), though I'm not sure why is that so.

EST: Kuldse Notsu Korts

Image
Does elk meat taste different from reindeer meat? A day trip to Tallinn, Estonia from Helsinki, Finland proved to be rewarding. For lunch, we'd wanted to dine at the highly popular Rataskaevu 16. However, since it was way too crowded, we decided to head to another famous restaurant that serves Estonian cuisine called Kuldse Notsu Korts (lit. Golden Piglet Inn).

FIN: Mumin Kaffe

Image
Have some snacks and drinks with your favourite Moomin characters! I was so sad when I got to know that Moomin Café at Harbour City in HK closed down. During our visit to Helsinki, Finland, my BFF and I made it a point to drop by one of such establishments. It turned out that we went to the original branch, which isn't that far from Kaisaniemi Botanical Garden and Helsinki Cathedral.

FIN: Ravintola Kuu Kuu

Image
'Twas my very first experience with reindeer meat! Situated not far from the famous Temppeliaukio Church that was built directly into solid rock, Ravintola Kuu Kuu serves classic and modern local dishes in a relaxed setting. It has been around since 1990. BTW, ravintola is the local word for 'restaurant'.

FIN: Hilton Helsinki Airport [Breakfast]

Image
Free flow pickled herring really made my day! Back in Helsinki, Finland, my BFF and I decided to stay at Hilton Helsinki Airport (5*) for one night as we landed at around 10.40pm and we didn't want to rush to go to town. It was certainly a pity that our stay was short, but we truly enjoyed quality buffet breakfast the next day.

FIN: Finnair Lounge @ Vantaa Airport (Schengen Area)

Image
Ever tried Karelian pasty, the national dish of Finland? Here's the very first post on Finland! After wandering about the Schengen area of Vantaa Airport, my BFF and I went to Finnair Lounge that's situated near Gate 22 while waiting for our next flight to Warsaw, Poland. Breakfast is served daily at the lounge from 6.00am to 10.30am.

SIN: Fika Swedish Café & Bistro

Image
A Halal bistro serving authentic Swedish cuisine! Before I sign out for an overseas trip till 18 June 2017, I shall write an entry on this particular Swedish bistro at Beach Road. Fika , which basically means 'to have coffee', is a concept of having a break in Swedish culture. The city of Kalmar was the first to set a record where 2,620 individuals gathered for a fika on 6 June 2007.
