SIN: Sarai Fine Thai

Image
Affordable crab meat curry that pleased the taste buds! Here's the last post for 2025 as the year gently draws to a close, hopefully filled with moments of peace and comfort for all of us. Formerly known as Patara Fine Thai Cuisine, which had been a stalwart at Tanglin Mall since its opening in 1995, Sarai Fine Thai emerged in 2019 after a thoughtful renovation and rebranding.

SIN: Thai Tantric Restaurant

Image
Go to Orchard Towers for... Thai food! I can count with the fingers of one hand the number of times I went inside Orchard Towers. No, not to engage in sleazy activities in what used to be colloquially known as "Four Floors of Whores", of course, though authorities began forcing the nightclubs to shut down in August this year. Located on the third floor is a rather popular eatery serving Thai cuisine.

SIN: Folks Collective

Image
Addictive deep-fried squid appetiser with lots of garlic and chili! Even though it probably doesn't sound like one, Folks Collective is a Thai restaurant located at Cross Street Exchange near where I used to live. It's said that the inspiration behind the restaurant "stems from a Bangkok night market that grew out of an abandoned railway station" with 'every corner [revealing] a sentimental surprise from bygone days".

SIN: Pranakorn

Image
No 'pad thai' and pineapple fried rice: no problem! Pranakorn, while the spelling may vary, is an old name for the capital city of Thailand: Bangkok. The head chef, of what considered to be a little gem in Changi Village by many, hailed from Chonburi that's approximately 80 km from Bangkok. There's quite an array of dishes served there, but forget about finding the two aforementioned quintessential Thai dishes on the menu.

SIN: Thai Pan Restaurant - 2nd

Image
Thai Pan's butter squid for the last time! I hardly write about the same restaurant twice, but here's a tribute to Thai Pan Restaurant that I've known since my secondary school days. Though not entirely shocking given the current COVID-19 pandemic, I'm certainly saddened by the news that they'll only be around till 30 June 2021 after a good 18 years of operation.

SIN: Thai Accent

Image
Truly fresh and flavourful steamed sea bass! One fine evening, not having a specific restaurant in mind while walking about at Singapore's largest shoping mall, i.e. VivoCity, I decided to walk into Thai Accent. It was only until I was seated that I checked the reviews given to the Thai restaurant online, which appear to be pretty much promising.

SIN: Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen

Image
Where one 'Thai' isn't enough to make you stand out! When I heard my friend mentioning the name Zhongshan Mall for the first time, my response was, "Is that in Taipei, Taiwan?" He was actually referring to a shopping mall located in close proximity to the historical Sun Yat-Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall between Novena and Toa Payoh MRT stations. I agreed to accompany him to have dinner there at this affordable Thai eatery.

SIN: Bangkok Jam

Image
Service was rather jammed that evening... It's said that the traffic jam in Bangkok, Thailand is among the worst in the world. For some reason, that fact became the catalyst for the birth of Bangkok Jam, a chain of restaurants managed by the Creative Eateries group. As my mom was craving for Thai food, we went to the branch at Marina Square, which isn't far from home.

SIN: Gin Khao Bistro

Image
Ever had sticky rice gelato or green curry gelato before? Gin Khao (lit. Eat Rice) Bistro is one of the restaurants lining up Quayside Isle at Sentosa Cove. After enjoying a peaceful, breezy walk, my BFF and I decided to have Thai cuisine for dinner. At the point of writing, there are two other branches at One Raffles Place and SAFRA Tampines.

SIN: Siam Village

Image
First time having such a frothy salted egg sauce! Siam Village is a no-frills Thai eatery that used to operate at the food court of Midpoint Orchard, an old shopping mall smacked in the glitzy Orchard Road. However, it has since moved to 77 Jalan Wangi at Macpherson. Presumably due to a higher rental fee, it has increased the prices of the dishes.

SIN: NS Thai Cuisine [Delivery]

Image
Try the lemongrass chicken if you're a big fan of the herb! NS Thai Cuisine is a stall located at the coffee shop of 116 Bukit Merah View HDB block. It was only after I finished my dinner that I recalled that a good friend of mine brought me there a few years ago. If my memory serves me right, I had their pineapple fried rice, which was tasty.

SIN: Blue Jasmine

Image
Blue rice, sticky rice, mocktail and everything nice! Blue Jasmine is a Halal -certified restaurant at Park Hotel Farrer Park that serves dishes from Southern Thailand and the Esarn region, making use of spices imported directly from the country. I've got to know about the restaurant from corporate offer e-mail messages that I've been receiving lately.

SIN: Aoy's Thai Noodle Bar

Image
Lovely sticky rice dessert with such a sweet mango! More often than not, I find myself craving for Thai mango sticky rice. Given that I was wandering about Changi Airport Terminal 3, I decided to have lunch at the eye-catching Aoy's Thai Noodle Bar that whips up some street food commonly found in the Land of Smiles.

SIN: YOLO [Delivery]

Image
"Eat your goals!" Food kiosks offering healthier choices have been mushrooming lately. One brand that has been around since 2013 is YOLO at Icon Village that's not far from Tanjong Pagar MRT station. It's Halal -certified.

SIN: Chock Full of Beans

Image
One random question: Does Rilakkuma like popcorn? A trip to the east, Changi Village to be exact, brought my BFF and me to Chock Full of Beans. Managed by Redmill Bakery, t's a café serving not only a variety of coffee drinks, but also savoury dishes. For those interested in 2D and/or 3D latte art, you may want to check this place out.

FJI: Kai Time Restaurant @ Aroha Taveuni

Image
Delicious Sunday roast with top-notch hospitality! Everyone says that spending only 3D2N at Taveuni Island in Fiji is way too short. Nevertheless, I've never regretted the decision as I managed to visit the places I wanted to go. Anyway, I stayed at the highly rated, homely Aroha Taveuni that has only five guest rooms, all of which face the beach.

SIN: Mambo Beach Club {CLOSED}

Image
Quite a nice bowl of salad with chunky beef in front of the sea, but... UPDATE (05/10/2018):  The eatery has closed down. Situated along Siloso Beach on Sentosa Island, Mambo Beach Club draws its inspiration from the classic 1950s beach bars in Miami, the USA. Facing the ocean front, it serves not only cocktails, which I didn't try, but also snacks and main courses.

THA: Nuer Koo

Image
A premium beef noodle eatery, where you can go for imported Kobe beef! :P To end off the short trip to Bangkok, Thailand, my BFF and I decided to drop by Siam Paragon, one of the biggest shopping centres in Asia, again after four years. The purpose was to try a more upscale beef noodle, elevated from the traditional street food, at Nuer Koo.

THA: QG Resort [Breakfast]

Image
Authentic Thai dishes with organic ingredients in a quaint little resort! A small family-run resort owned by a burly and friendly British man, QG Resort (2*) in Bangkok, Thailand has been given lots of thumbs up online by many customers. Providing a free transfer to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport, it's no doubt a comfortable place to catch a good sleep, especially so when one is transiting.

THA: Holiday Inn Express: Bangkok Siam [Breakfast]

Image
Fresh vegetables from the salad bar, but any Grab & Go service available? Prior to the recent trip to Bangkok, Thailand, I'd never stayed at any of Holiday Inn properties. Hence, my experience at Holiday Inn Express: Bangkok Siam (3*) was the first. Strategically located in the heart of Siam, next to National Stadium BTS sky train station, it features 300 rooms, as well as a rooftop garden.
