TWN: Li-Wu Hotel (立霧客棧) [Breakfast]

Simple, yet homely breakfast of porridge before trekking! My BFF and I decided to stay at Li-Wu Hotel for 3D2N as it's located within walking distance from the entrance of Taroko National Park. We enjoyed the simple breakfast prepared by the friendly old lady who's the mother of the owner of the accommodation.

TWN: Tianxiang Restaurant (天祥餐廳)

Have you tried wild boar before? My BFF and I made a brief stop at the village of Tianxiang for lunch after a morning of trekking at Taroko National Park. We'd initially wanted to dine at Mei Yuan inside Silks Place Taroko Hotel, but apparently it was booked for an event that afternoon. As such, we went to Tian Xiang Restaurant to enjoy simple Taiwanese fares.

TWN: Lan Lan Restaurant (藍藍餐廳)

Such nice cuttlefish and pteridophyte dishes! There aren't many eateries around the area outside Taroko National Park. During our 3D2N stay, my BFF and I had our dinner at the same restaurant, which isn't far from Li-Wu Hotel. We ordered two dishes each evening as the servers told us that they'd be more than enough for two people.

Not a single visit to Japan without 'ekiben'! A portmanteau of eki (lit. station) and bento (Japanese meal box), ekiben  has long been an icon of Japanese culinary culture. I know the meal boxes are served at room temperature, but I'm always drawn to them, thanks in part to their exquisite presentation. My family bought some from Ekiben Tabi Bento situated within Kyoto station to savour them for lunch, not inside a train, but in the comfort of our hotel room.
