Image
When childhood candy dreams hop into mooncake reality! As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches on 6 October, it's time once again for the annual tradition of this blog: delving into a selection of mooncakes. While snowskin varieties have often taken the spotlight, I'm turning to the baked classics this time round, and what better way to do so with something that stirs up childhood nostalgia: the beloved White Rabbit brand!

'Tie guan yin' and lychee are besties! Welcome to this year's edition of our Mid-Autumn mooncake post! With just a week to go until Mid-Autumn Festival 2024, let's take a look at some pretty duo-tone snowskin mooncakes offered by Luna, a proud local patisserie that made its debut at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

Lavender apricot for the win! Happy birthday to Pikachu! With Mid-Autumn Festival on the horizon, and Melon's birthday in exactly two weeks' time, it's customary for the two of them to celebrate with mooncakes. This year, we shall look at the snowskin mooncakes from the sweets boutique by Janice Wong, a Singaporean chef, chocolatier and artist.

SIN: Mid-Autumn 2022 Mooncakes @ The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore

Image
The hotel's signature cocktail in a truffle! This year's Mid-Autumn Festival is around the corner, and that means a post on mooncakes is in order. I didn't have much difficulty choosing, for the assorted snowskin mooncakes offered by The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore (5*) caught my attention early last month. Two boozy and three non-boozy flavours are offered this time round.

SIN: Inside Singapore Airlines @ SIA Training Centre

Image
A sneak peek of the new short-haul Economy Class meal (sans the satay)! Following the Restaurant A380 @ Changi event that I attended sometime last month, I had the opportunity to take part in Singapore Airlines' behind-the-scenes tour named Inside Singapore Airlines. For this particular event, SIA Training Centre is opening its doors to registered guests over the last two weekends of November 2020.

Possibly the one and only time I got to dine onboard a grounded aircraft! Singapore Airlines originally planned to launch the so-called 'flights to nowhere' to earn a bit of revenue after being crippled by COVID-19. However, due to the growing environmental concerns raised by quite a few parties, it called off the plan. To make up for that, it has decided to come up with a pop-up restaurant using one of its Airbus 380-800 aircraft for two weekends.

SIN: Mid-Autumn 2020 Mooncakes @ Crowne Plaza Changi Airport

Image
Interesting 'kueh salat' mooncake, but... Mid-Autumn Festival 2020 is around the corner. Have you got yourselves some mooncakes? This season, I decided to try the quartet of snowskin mooncakes by Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, which pays tribute to local flavours. That aside, let's also wish a very happy birthday to Pikachu, who's been an integral part of this food blog!

SIN: Butterknife Folk {National Day 2020}

Not a fan of the local 'chee cheong fun', but the ice cream was good! I shall take the opportunity to write about something local today. Singapore celebrated its 55th birthday on 9 August 2020. In conjunction with our National Day, an ice cream stall named Butterknife Folk, which has been around since 2016, is offering a total of 43 local flavours for the entire month of August.

SIN: Mid-Autumn 2019 Mooncakes @ East Ocean Teochew Restaurant

Image
How decadent is the custard snowskin mooncake? September is finally here. As always, here's this year's mooncake review before the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival comes, which falls on 13 September this year. This time round, I opted for more conventional flavours of snowskin mooncakes from East Ocean Teochew Restaurant, which has been around since 1992.

SIN: Mid-Autumn 2018 Mooncakes @ Marina Bay Sands

Strawberry + yogurt + champagne = LOVE! It's Pikachu's birthday today! I think I've shared with you before that his birthday is the same as mine. As can be seen in the picture below, he couldn't wait to try the snowskin mooncakes of four different flavours from Marina Bay Sands for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

HKG: Bo Innovation

Image
"X-treme Chinese Cuisine" by the Demon Chef! How many of you have heard of Alvin Leung, a renowned HK chef who dabbles in molecular gastronomy? I've always been amazed by his creations whenever he appears on TV shows. His first restaurant, Bo Innovation, has been rated Three Michelin Stars since 2014 as he continues to "challenge people's expectations, to surprise and excite them."

CAM: Lucky Burger

Image
Guess what that purplish sauce on the burger was? :P After eating snacks here and there in the late afternoon, my BFF and I weren't too hungry. As such, we decided to have a simple meal at the local burger joint inside Lucky Mall. Since we were there in December, we decided to try the limited edition Christmas burger.

SIN: Mid-Autumn 2016 Mooncakes @ TCC

Image
A nice blend of fragrant osmanthus and refreshing yuzu in a mooncake! How many of us can recall offhand the full name of TCC? Prior to the act of writing this review, I couldn't. Anyway, The Connoisseur Concerto offers its selection of eight snowskin mooncake flavours to keep your sweet tooth sated this season of joy.

SIN: Mid-Autumn 2015 Mooncakes @ Bakerzin

Image
Smooth lotus paste infused with jasmine so fragrant! Today is 2015 Mid-Autumn Festival! This is the fourth time I'm going to write about mooncakes in this blog, and apparently I've never written a single thing on traditional baked ones. Hence, a few days ago, I decided to get some from Bakerzin.

After missing the first one in 2013, I made it a point to go to Bugis just now, no matter how long the queues would be. Here are the dishes I tried in chronological order.
