SIN: Traditional Sarawak Kolo Mee

Image
'Kolo mee' with smoked duck better than the premium version! I'm a sucker for  kolo mee , a dry egg noodle dish hailing from Sarawak, Malaysia, which I very much prefer over other types like wanton noodle. Traditional Sarawak Kolo Mee has got two branches that are located pretty near each other at the point of writing: one at Fusionopolis that I visited, while the other is at Biopolis.

SIN: Flipper's

Image
Pancake x  soufflé originated from Tokyo! Hailing from Japan, Flipper's is a chain café renowned for its fluffy, jiggly soufflé pancakes. While I've never had the chance to try the pancakes in its country of origin, I was excited to finally experience them at the Westgate branch here in Singapore, which has been drawing long lines of eager patrons.

SIN: McDonald's {Chinese New Year 2024}

Image
Are you Team Chicken or Team Beef for Prosperity Burger? In a blink of an eye, we find ourselves approaching the end of the Lunar New Year period. Have you indulged in McDonald's  Prosperity Burger yet this year? Did you know that 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of this beloved burger, which is also available in other regions, such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Hong Kong?

SIN: McDonald's {National Day 2022} [Takeaway]

Image
Of 'laksa', 'pulut hitam' and 'teh C'! Hi, folks! It's been a while since my last update. I'm still in the midst of tidying up the photos from my last trip, so stay tuned! For today, let's talk about McDonald's again. In conjunction with Singapore's 57th National Day this year, our local Golden Arches decided to infuse local elements into some of their items.

SIN: IKEA Restaurant

Image
I prefer their flaky salmon to the meatballs! When people mention about IKEA, I bet these are among the first two things that come to mind: furniture and Swedish meatballs. IKEA first opened its doors in Singapore along Alexandra Road in 1978. Truth be told, the first time I tried their famed meatballs wasn't actually at home, but during one my trips to HK.

SIN: The White Rabbit {CLOSED}

Image
Grab a seat for a memorable meal before it's gone! UPDATE (03/02/2023):  The restaurant has closed down. No, we're not talking about the creamy candy from China. Housed in a restored 1930s chapel on Dempsey Hill, The White Rabbit has been serving modern European cuisine with a lovely ambience since 2008. Together with The Rabbit Hole, a whimsical gin garden bar, it's going to give way for a new concept slated to launch in late 2021.

SIN: Hoshino Coffee

Image
Can you handle both maple syrup and 'matcha' sauce together? Hoshino Coffee was established in Japan in 2011. Having more than 200 outlets in the Land of the Rising Sun, it's renowned for its hand-drip coffee and soufflé pancake. Following its success, it opened its first overseas outlet in Singapore in 2012, though I'm not sure which is the very first one out of the ten branches that we have across the island at the point of writing.

SIN: Sin Kee Famous Cantonese Chicken Rice [Delivery]

Image
Chicken rice recipe passed down from one generation to another~ Have you heard of Sin Kee? After the owner of the original stall passed away, the sons sold their late father's chicken rice recipe for a whooping S$42,800.00  a while ago. Long story cut short, after moving from one place to another and a period of latency, one of the sons reopened the stall at Holland Drive.

SIN: QQ Rice

Image
"The Rice Magician" Many of my friends have been raving about QQ Rice, which has been around in Singapore since 2010. Truth be told, it's only recently that I tried some of its offerings from the kiosk at One @ Kent Ridge. It's been certified by Health Promotion Board for three years now to be a partner that serves whole grain options.

SIN: The Bridge and Beacon Bar

Image
Crispy sea bass trapped by saffron sauce! Have you ever been to Republic of Singapore Yacht Club? I went there not to sign up as a member, but to have lunch with a friend at The Bridge and Beacon Bar. The restaurant serves modern European dishes, some of which are infused with elements of Asian cooking.

SIN: Cali Café

Image
Not-so-awesome steak that came with nice Madeira sauce... Cali Café at Changi Business Park has been around since 1997. I didn't go there, but I visited the branch that's housed inside Park Avenue Hotel at Rochester Drive, which is near my current workplace. I wonder if the name of the café has got anything to do with California, the USA.

SIN: NS Thai Cuisine [Delivery]

Image
Try the lemongrass chicken if you're a big fan of the herb! NS Thai Cuisine is a stall located at the coffee shop of 116 Bukit Merah View HDB block. It was only after I finished my dinner that I recalled that a good friend of mine brought me there a few years ago. If my memory serves me right, I had their pineapple fried rice, which was tasty.

SIN: Otto's Deli Fresh

Image
Marriage between Russian beef stroganoff and Italian fettuccine~ Happy New Year! Here's hoping that 2019 will bring renewed joy and hope for everyone. To kickstart the year, I shall write about a place that's not only a delicatessen, but also a casual dining restaurant owned by a Swiss-born chef named Otto Weibel who used to whip up dishes at famous hotels in Singapore and HK.

SIN: Yunnan Garden Restaurant

Image
Deep-fried baby squid that went wrong... Yunnan Garden Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant located at the Galaxis complex of Fusionopolis. Its history dates back to the 1970s as a cafeteria serving staff and students of Nanyang University, which was eventually merged with University of Singapore to form the current National University of Singapore.

SIN: Hot Star Large Fried Chicken

Image
How's the award-winning Taiwanese deep-fried chicken in Singapore? Hot Star Large Fried Chicken is a well-known snack shop at Shilin Night Market in Taipei, Taiwan that serves huge chicken cutlets sought after by many visitors. It was set up in 1999, but its history actually dates back to 1992 somewhere in Taichung. Does anyone know if the original shop is still operating?

SIN: Ippudo

Image
Motto: "To continuously innovate to remain true" Ippudo was founded in 1985 in Hakata, Japan. One fine afternoon on my mom's birthday, I brought her for a lunch. We happened to be in the west that day, so I brought her to Ippudo at Westgate as she likes ramen. During lunch time, you can have the  Lunch Set Menu  with a top-up of  S$5.00  to your ramen order in order to enjoy one side dish and one drink.

SIN: Portico Host {CLOSED}

Image
A taste of Pulau Ubin sea bass at Alexandra Road! UPDATE (25/07/2020):  The restaurant has closed down. Formerly known as Hosted on the Patio, Portico Host is a casual dining restaurant with its own edible garden. It works in partnership with Plant Visionz and Tiberias Harvest fishery for fresh ingredients to be used in its predominantly modern European-inspired dishes.

SIN: La Nonna

Image
A nice interplay between veal and tuna sauce! Situated in the vicinity of the rich with landed properties in all directions is La Nonna (lit. grandmother), a restaurant serving Italian cuisine. The first outlet, which I went to, opened its doors in November 2006. It has since levelled up to include another outlet at Holland Village.
