TRY: Gulhane Park Hotel [Breakfast]

A wide array of Turkish and Western cold dishes!

My BFF and I spent three nights at Gulhane Park Hotel (4*) in Sultanahmet, which is conveniently located near Sirkeci Marmaray station. Look forward to the colourful spread of cold dishes served for breakfast every morning, which is the (only) highlight of the buffet line.

Assorted Stuff #1

The food shown in the picture above represents only one part of the cold dishes. Some of them might look heavy on the palate for breakfast, but they were actually quite light and tasted mild enough. I particularly enjoyed the eggplants soaked in olive oil, as well as the cheese topped with chili pepper and dried oregano leaves.

Assorted Stuff #2

The cooked items, unfortunately, left much to be desired. For example, the scrambled eggs weren't were a tad too salty for my liking even though they were acceptably fluffy. The borek (Turkish deep-fried stuffed filo pastry) filled with cheese wasn't crispy at all. Apart from that, the cylindrical French toast was kinda soggy.

Assorted Stuff #3

As you would've probably noticed, I tried the above items on a different day at a different table. The bread topped with white and black sesame seeds was quite fluffy, while the rest on the plate was quite hard in terms of texture.

Fruits & Yogurt

The diced apples and oranges were pretty soggy, presumably having been stored since the previous day. To sweeten up a bowl of plain yogurt, I added cherry compote, which could be less watery.

Beverages

It was unfortunate that the cherry juice was diluted to the point that it felt more like sweetened water. On the other hand, the coffee was quite aromatic. I had two cups every morning throughout my stay in the hotel.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Overall: 6/10

I wasn't too satisfied with the breakfast served at the hotel, save for the cold dishes that were pretty good. Pika's advice: The dining area isn't that big, so it's best to come down early to have your breakfast peacefully without possibly having to share tables with other guests.
