BEL: Café Balkon (кафе Балкон)

'Kung Pao' Chicken that was more like General Tso Chicken~

I promise this is going to be the last review a Galileo Mall restaurant in Minsk. My BFF and I were looking forward to visit Café Balkon that serves an array of Pacific Asian cuisine. That was probably the same feeling of excitement that we had when we were about to dine at SushiCo in Turkey.

As we weren't feeling too hungry, we decided to share a few small dishes.

Chicken Wings in Teriyaki Sauce BYR 8.50 (~S$5.70)
Taste: 6/10

The chicken wings covered in sweet sauce topped with sesame seeds were the first to be delivered to our table. They tasted alright, but not that juicy. We were provided with a bowl of water with a slice of lime, which I suppose would be for us to clean off our sticky fingers after eating the wings.

Suimono BYR 6.00 (~S$4.00)
Taste: 7.5/10

For something heart-warming, we had the clear soup flavoured with a bit of miso (Japanese fermented rice, barley and/or soybean) paste. Swimming inside were soba (Japanese buckwheat noodle), sliced perch, mushrooms, tofu and spring onions.

Chicken Kung Pao with Rice BYR 7.00 (~S$4.70)
Taste: 5.5/10

Even though the dish isn't called General Tso Chicken, it tasted like one. I actually enjoyed the tender white meat that came with pine nuts. The flavour of the sauce coating the chicken bits was good, but alas, it was quite salty and made me feel dehydrated after a few spoonfuls.

Higashi BYR 15.00 (~S$10.05)
Taste: 7.5/10

The café serves quite a variety of the vinegared rice delicacies, and we ended up with the dish that literally means 'East'. For a landlocked country, I must say that the salmon, tuna and flying fish roe were acceptably fresh. They were accompanied by spicy mayonnaise and batter bits for an added crunch.

Sakura BYR 8.00 (~S$5.35)
Taste: 8/10

Nope, those weren't something savoury. The sweet cream cheese rolls studded with fruits that we had at the end of the meal were pretty memorable. Each piece was wrapped with a pink-coloured pancake layer that was enjoyably chewy and drizzled with chocolate sauce.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7/10

It's always interesting to see how Asian dishes are executed in Western countries.
