SIN: Golden Rooster
Take your pick: BBQ or fried chicken?
I've heard that Golden Rooster chicken dishes were everyone's favourite. I'm not sure if that's a hyperbole, but all I can say is that their dishes weren't bad. However, over the years, they've raised their prices somewhat significantly. When I first tried their rice with half BBQ chicken, it was S$4.50. For the same portion, expect to take out S$5.30 from your wallet now.
Half BBQ Chicken with Rice S$5.30

The tender half BBQ chicken came with rice and a bit of coleslaw on the side. While the skin was flavourful, it was a pity that the marination didn't quite allow the flavours to seep into the meat. The chili wasn't exciting for me due to the fact that it was watery and not too hot.
I found the half fried spring chicken to be slightly better than its BBQ counterpart. The mild crunchiness of the skin, which was adequately seasoned, met the could-be-more-succulent meat. The coleslaw was refreshingly sweet.

Taste: 7.5/10
The stall is located at VariNice hawker centre in Clementi, so Melon isn't reviewing the ambience. Pika's advice: They also sell other dishes which are typically sold at stalls selling Western food. I've never tried any of them, so perhaps you may want to give them a try.
