TWN: EVA Air BR226 (Economy)
How about indulging in some tea-infused menu onboard?
Let's start our trip to the Americas with an exploration of the in-flight food and beverages onboard EVA Air BR226 from Singapore to Taipei, Taiwan. Photos in the coming posts remain in a square format because, as mentioned earlier, I lost most of my photos and the only ones I've got left are those I've shared on my Instagram.
BR Meal
Sicilian Shrimp Salad - Taste: 7.5/10
To begin with, I had an appetiser hailing from Sicily, Italy that comprised chopped vegetables, raisins and small shrimps. It was drizzled with a pretty refreshing dressing made of oil, lemon juice, vinegar capers and pounded anchovies.
Wok-Fried Beef with Steamed Rice - Taste: 8/10
The Chinese main course featured steamed rice with stir-fried beef and sliced button mushrooms, as well as a medley of steamed vegetables that were sweet and not soggy. The menu stated that the slices of beef, which was tender enough, was wok-fried with oolong tea-flavoured soy sauce, even though I couldn't really detect the aroma of the said tea.
Shredded Chicken in Mushroom Sauce with Spaghetti - Taste: 7.5/10
The Western main course might not look the most appetising, its taste proved to be pretty delightful. While a touch more hydration for a few strands of spaghetti wouldn't have gone amiss, they went well with the thick and creamy sauce that enveloped tender strands of chicken meat and mushrooms. The steamed broccoli added a naturally sweet and verdant note to the dish.
Oolong Tea Cake with Orange Zest - Taste: 7.5/10
The humble butter cake was elevated through infusion with oolong tea and orange zest. Dusted with castor sugar, it had an adequately soft and spongy texture. While the subtle aroma of the oolong tea permeated the cake, a touch more intensity could enhance it further.
Fresh Fruits
Each passenger was treated to a slice of apple and two slices of orange.
Bread
The bread roll was quite moist and fluffy. No complaints there!
Beverages
A range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages was offered, from which I had a decent glass of white wine to accompany my meal. After that, I had a cup of coffee that was unfortunately rather diluted.
BR Snack
Prior to the meal, each passenger was given a small packet of mixed nuts and rice crackers. I opted for a cup of orange juice to go with it.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10Service: 7/10
Overall: 7/10
