SIN: Tastes of Asia {CLOSED}

"Four iconic Singapore favourites in one satisfying platter!"

UPDATE (12/07/2017): The restaurant has closed down.

Above is the description of the dish which really captured my attention when I was trying to look for a place to dine after roaming around Sentosa Island. Tastes of Asia boasts an enticing menu from Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, but to give some examples.

Hawker Signatures S$12.50
Taste: 8/10

From the platter that was ordered by almost every table, I enjoyed the adequately spicy laksa (Peranakan dish of noodle in rich coconut gravy) the most. The chicken rice was pretty fragrant, but each grain could be fluffier. Thankfully, the chicken satay wasn't that sweet, while the otah (Peranakan fish cake) was decent with its mild sweetness and spiciness.

Ayam Penyet S$8.80
Taste: 8/10

The ayam penyet (lit. smashed chicken) was pretty authentic, having juicy meat and crispy skin which had a good turmeric kick. It was a pity that the tempe goreng (lit. fried fermented soya bean cake) was too small, and there wasn't anymore chili to accompany the delicious chicken.

Thai Red Ruby S$3.50
Taste: 7/10

Closing an eye on the horribly shaped ruby pieces, I actually felt that they were nicely chewy with a hint of rose. There wasn't enough coconut milk though, and the shaved ice could be smoother.

Iced Ocha Tea (Promo) S$1.90
Taste: 7/10

Originally priced at S$3.00, the cold tea was alright, or perhaps it could be a bit sweeter. Price reduction is applicable with every purchase of a main course.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 6/10
Overall: 7/10

Pika's advice: This is definitely the place to go if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive meal in Sentosa Island. It's located within walking distance from the Beach Station.
