SIN: Vanda Terrace [Breakfast]

Last year, I had the opportunity to go for a 2D1N staycation at the serene Orchid Country Club (4*) as I managed to score a fantastic deal. The room rate didn't include breakfast, but I went for a la carte breakfast at one of the eateries called Vanda Terrace. Breakfast items are served there from 7.30am to 11.00am daily.

What I'm going to show here are the prices for the public, but members of the country club enjoy discounted prices. Pika's advice: If you're not a member and happen to stay at the accommodation, do show your room keycard to enjoy 10% discount.

American Breakfast Platter S$15.60

Taste: 7/10

The first thing that caught my eye was the herby focaccia bread, which came with butter and, oddly enough, strawberry jam. There was quite a huge chicken sausage on the plate, along with bacon strips that were moist enough. I enjoyed the two sunny-side up eggs that had runny yolk, and had no complaints about the canned baked beans, hash brown and tomato. Pika's advice: It seems like it's possible to request for an omelette or scrambled eggs in place of the sunny-side up eggs.

Kaya Toast S$5.50

Taste: 7/10

I wonder when was the last time I had kaya toast for breakfast prior to that staycation. While certainly not going to win any awards, the ones served at Vanda Terrace were good enough, especially when they were pretty generous with the amount of pandan kaya jam and salted butter. I enjoyed the crunchy toast, along with the interplay between the sweet and the savoury.

Teh Tarik S$3.00

Taste: 6/10

It was nice to see that the teh tarik (lit. pulled tea) came to the table frothy. Texture wise, it was pretty smooth, but not as velvety as expected. For someone who usually goes for the lowest sugar level when it comes to tea beverages, I'd prefer it to be a tad less sweet even though it wasn't overwhelmingly so to begin with.
