COL: La Dora Restaurante Campestre

Something that reminded me of sea coconut~

On one of the days during our trip, my BFF and I booked a half-day tour to marvel at Tequendama Falls and visit a coffee farm outside of Bogota. It concluded with lunch at La Dora, a humble eatery in the city of Fusagasuga located southwest of the capital city, which offers a pleasant view of the countryside.

As you've probably noticed, we've bid adieu to square-shaped Instagram photos from this post onwards. Fortunately, I still have these original photos from the latter part of the trip.

Patacon con Hogao COP 8,000 (~S$2.60)
Taste: 7/10

Our lunch began with green plantains that were flattened and deep-fried till golden, serving as a base for hogao, a kind of topping made from sautéed onions, tomatoes and spices. The crispy, starchy plantains paired pretty nicely with the slightly tangy and spicy hogao, though I felt that it could be more flavourful.

Churrasco COP 39,900 (~S$13.05)
Taste: 4/10

The churrasco, a classic Latin American grilled steak, was quite a letdown during our visit. I'd anticipated a juicy, flavour-packed cut of beef, but alas, the steak turned out to be rather tough and dry. While the fries and side salad were enjoyable, they couldn't compensate for the disappointment of the red meat.

Arroz Especial La Dora COP 44,900 (~S$14.60)
Taste: 8/10

The eatery's signature dish was quite a spectacle. The fluffy arroz amarillo (lit. yellow rice), fried with a blend of spices and saffron, was loaded with fish, squid and shrimps. Decorating the dish were two plantain pieces arranged to stand upright atop the rice, adding a nice crunch and a touch of sweetness.

Cuajada con Papayuela COP 13,000 (~S$4.25)
Taste: 7.5/10

Not knowing what to expect, we decided to order the most unfamiliar-sounding dessert. While it might not look appetising, the combination of smooth, slightly local cheese and sweet mountain papaya native to South America worked well. Interestingly, the texture and taste of the latter very much reminded me of canned honey sea coconut that we can find here in Singapore.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 5/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 6/10

The first thing that came to mind when I reached the restaurant was... Dora the Explorer. Haha! Pika's advice: From their website, it looks like they always have special dishes for Christmas and New Year. You may want to check them out.
