SIN: L'Entrecôte
Are you a fan of their rich specialty sauce?
Named after the Tatin sisters who invented and served the tart in their hotel as a signature dish, the restaurant's version of the apple tart came with a dollop of sour cream on the side. While I enjoyed the sweet, glossy caramelised apples on top, the pastry could be more buttery and complex in texture to make it exceptional.
Entrecôte is a French term that refers to a premium boneless cut of beef from the rib area, which is typically used for steaks and roasts. L'Entrecôte, a restaurant dedicated to this cut, features it as the one and only main course. One of the branches is located at Customs House, which was among the earliest public buildings in modern Singapore.
Trimmed Entrecôte Steak S$48.80
Taste: 8/10
Let’s dive straight into the main course. Accompanied by crispy fries that were nearly unsalted, just the way I like them, the beef was doused in their specialty sauce featuring mushrooms and black pepper. While the flavour was enjoyable, the sauce became a bit overwhelming after a while, so I was hoping for a lighter touch.
Done medium rare as requested, the meat showcased a lovely red hue. While it was tender for sure, I've had juicier ones elsewhere. Pika's advice: You can request for more fries and sauce.
Green Salad with Walnuts
Taste: 7/10
Every main course order comes with a plate of salad to whet your appetite before digging into the beef. While the greens were adequately fresh, the walnuts were somewhat stale that detracted from the overall experience. The assemblage was drizzled with mustard vinaigrette that was zesty alright.
L’Entrecôte’s Charcuterie Platter S$36.00
Taste: 7.5/10
Before the main course, I sampled the charcuterie platter with rilette, a spread made from slow-cooked duck, as the highlight as it offered buttery richness to go with bread. The meat pie wasn't too shabby, but the crust was a tad too dense for my liking. Lastly, the cured pork infused with herbs and spices wasn't too salty.
