SIN: SERVUS German Burger Grill

Not wow-ed by its beef burgers though...

Born in Germany, Hans im Glück (lit. Hans in Luck) is a burger chain named after a fairytale recorded by the Brothers Grimm. Known for its forest-inspired decor, the outlets create a cozy, rustic atmosphere. Here in Singapore, it's been rebranded as SERVUS German Burger Grill and it can be found at VivoCity.

My friend and I ordered a burger set meal each, which came with a choice of side dish and thirst quencher.

Schnorkellöser (Set Menu) S$18.90

I chose the brioche bun for my burger that literally means 'No-Frills'. At the heart of the most basic burger was a beef patty, which could've been cooked shorter to retain more moisture, along with signature sauce. Fresh lettuce, red onions and sun-ripened tomatoes completed the burger.

To accompany the burger, I went for the thick-cut fries that were delightful enough: crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For the beverage, I had a refreshing bottle of iced tea with cucumber and basil leaves.

Wilder Westen (Set Menu) S$20.90
Wilder Westen - Taste: 7/10
Krautknolle - Taste: 7/10

A slightly better creation was the burger inspired by the Wild West, chosen with a sourdough bun. While the beef patty suffered from the same fate, I enjoyed its combination with a slice of aged cheddar cheese, crispy fried onions and barbecue sauce. The side dish of white cabbage salad with potato dressing was a tad creamy and sour. My friend opted for a hot cup of herbal tea to cut through the richness of the meal.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The chain has got multiple branches in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Pika's advice: Besides a large variety of burgers, the eatery also serves some German main courses for you to try.
