SIN: Marks & Spencer

Virgin experience with cheesy hot cross buns!

Blessed Easter Sunday! It's a cherished tradition of mine to indulge in hot cross buns for the occasion every year. This year, I bought some from Marks & Spencer, a British multinational retailer founded by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer in 1884. Also included in this blog post are a few other treats from the store.

Extremely Cheesy Hot Cross Buns S$7.30
Taste: 7.5/10

For the first time ever, I decided to go for savoury hot cross buns instead of the usual spiced or fruity ones. Featuring Cheddar and Red Leicester, the buns were adequately fluffy. Having said that, I couldn't help wishing they'd live up more fully to the name as the flavours weren't quite as bold as I'd hoped.

Palmier S$2.90
Taste: 6.5/10

Topped with an adequate amount of sugar for a caramelised finish, the big-sized French pastry delivered a satisfying buttery richness. However, I found it lacking in the flakiness department. It could definitely benefit from more crisp, airy layers to really hit that beloved texture.

Triple Chocolate Cookie S$2.20
Taste: 8/10

A delightful treat for chocolate lovers, the cookie crafted with sustainably sourced dark, milk and white chocolate buttons certainly didn't disappoint. The overall crunchy texture was enjoyable, though I think a softer, chewier centre would make it even more indulgent.

Percy Pig Mini Curly Tails S$6.90
Taste: 6/10

I love Percy Pig fruit gummies that are made without any artificial colourings and flavourings. As curiosity got the better of me, I eventually picked up a box of the mini popsicles to see how they fared. Alas, they didn't quite hit the mark for me as I found the strawberry flavour to be overpowering.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10

What's your favourite hot cross bun variety? Pika's advice: I'm not sure about you, but if I could only pick one snack from Marks & Spencer, it'd have to be their crunchy cheese twists.
