SIN: Mid-Autumn 2025 Mooncakes @ White Rabbit
When childhood candy dreams hop into mooncake reality!
As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches on 6 October, it's time once again for the annual tradition of this blog: delving into a selection of mooncakes. While snowskin varieties have often taken the spotlight, I'm turning to the baked classics this time round, and what better way to do so with something that stirs up childhood nostalgia: the beloved White Rabbit brand!
Originating from Shanghai, China, White Rabbit candy has been in production since 1943. This year, Hao Food SG has decided to import the mooncakes directly from Shanghai Guan Sheng Yuan Food Co. Ltd. I managed to get mine from TANGS at Orchard Road.
White Rabbit Mooncakes S$78.00
The White Rabbit collection features six lava mooncakes in four flavours: two each of Creamy Milk Custard and Chocolate Liquor, as well as one each of Longjing Tea and Black Truffle Custard. Unlike many of its counterparts, I found the baked skin to be less dense and pretty delicate that almost melted in the mouth.
Creamy Milk Custard Lava Mooncake
Taste: 8/10
Cutting the mooncake in half immediately released a gentle milky aroma that hinted at its indulgent nature. The custard filling was adequately rich without being cloying, having a velvety texture that made each bite satisfying. At the core was lava milk, a molten twist to the beloved candy.
Chocolate Liquor Lava Mooncake
Taste: 8.5/10
The chocolate version was a decadent treat from the very first bite. The dark-coloured filling was as visually promising as it was intense enough and only mildly sweet, just the way I like it. Though I was hoping for a runny centre, the liquor core certainly added a refined touch of sophistication with its bittersweet notes.
Longjing Tea Lava Mooncake
Taste: 7/10
My least favourite was the filling infused with pan-roasted green tea originating from Longjing, China. The tea aroma was so subtle that it barely came through, and the filling turned out to be the sweetest and least velvety of the bunch. Still, it wasn't bad by any means, especially since it also came with a lava milk core that's the highlight of the white rabbit brand
Black Truffle Custard Lava Mooncake
Taste: 8/10
The charcoal-skinned mooncake held a filling where the salted egg yolk flavour stood out most prominently among the rest. It was my first time encountering truffle in a mooncake, and while I must admit that I'm not a big fan of the prized underground mushroom, its earthy aroma wasn't overpowering.

Will we get to see these mooncakes again in Singapore in the years to come? Pika's advice: It seems like the rabbit-shaped tins have already sold out for the year, but at the point of writing, you can still purchase the mooncakes in ordinary boxes through their website.
