MAS: Little Penang Kafe
Enjoyable koay teow and nasi lemak!
Service was fast, done in a no-frills way actually. I wonder if there's nasi lemak with tamarind prawns in Singapore?
Suria KLCC is, in my opinion, a really nice shopping mall to wander about. With so many dining options, it was really difficult for me to decide where to eat though. Located at the top floor (if I'm not mistaken) of the mall, Little Penang Kafe grabbed my attention.
Char Koay Teow RM 10.50 (~S$4.30)
Taste: 8/10
To be honest, I'm not very used to the 'koay' spelling, but I just follow what's written in the menu. Anyway, the dish had the right balance of flavour with pleasant smoky taste (what we usually call wok hei), and thumbs up to the crunchy beansprouts which made it more delightful. Also, the dish came with a bit of crab meat which was sweet and moist. But well, it was just too little. Pika's advice: I don't know if it's just me, but perhaps it's better not to mix the crab meat together with the rest. Otherwise, you may not be able to taste it.
Nasi Lemak Penang RM 10.50 (~S$4.30)
Taste: 8.5/10
The nasi lemak (Malay rice dish cooked in coconut milk with pandan leaves) managed to capture my heart, even though the portion was too small. The coconut milk used gave the rice a rich fragrance and taste. The rice came with tamarind prawns, chili anchovies, mackerel, half hard-boiled egg, sliced cucumbers and spicy sambal belacan (lit. shrimp paste chili). The tamarind prawns were the highlight of the day, with the indescribable sweet and sour goodness.
Bandung Cincau RM 4.00 (~S$1.65)
Taste: 7/10
Okay, it was my first time seeing such a unique combination. The rose syrup with condensed milk wasn't as sweet as expected, which was good, but perhaps the cincau (lit. grass jelly) lacked the distinctive aroma.
