SIN: The Tastings Room
Colourful duck confit with crispy skin!
I chose the duck over the mackerel for the main course. The avian meat was slow cooked in own juice before it was deep-fried. Served on top of a sweet lump of carrot purée, it was really tender and juicy beyond my expectation, and the skin was sinfully savoury and crispy. The brown sauce didn't have much of a taste though.
To end of the meal, I chose a plate of what is simply translated as cheesecake. Made without egg yolk to make it healthier, it was still amazingly creamy without being sickeningly rich. Just one slice of dreamily sweet and salty cheesecake was enough to make you carry on with life.
Basing itself on the philosophy of Epicurus: "Pleasure is the starting point of every choice and of every aversion", The Tastings Room offers contemporary French cuisine with its dim and laid-back ambience. The restaurant also has its own wine store. I ordered the value-for-money Four Course Set Menu priced at S$48.00 per person, and I came out of the restaurant with a big smile pencilled on my face.
French Onion Soup (Set Menu)
Taste: 8.5/10
The dinner started with a bowl of the archetypal soup with lots of caramelised onion slices in it. It wasn't only delectably sweet and rich, but also heart-warming at the same time. Paired with a crunchy slice of bread, it successfully perked up my appetite for the next dishes.
Escargot (Set Menu)
Taste: 7.5/10
Half a dozen of land snails was my choice for the second course, cooked in herb and butter cream sauce. They were covered by slightly burnt parmesan cheese which gave off a truly heady aroma. While the sauce was nicely creamy without being too heavy, the snails could be much juicier.

I couldn't ask for more: great taste, ambience and service for the day. I'll definitely be back sometime in the near future. Pika's advice: Looking for free corkage? Come down to the restaurant on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday!
