Can Bintan Sling beat Singapore Sling?

Time seemed to slow down a little bit on our first day at Bintan Island, Indonesia. After enjoying the rejuvenating sea breeze and the soothing sound of waves, we made our way to Calypso Floating Bar, which is located next to a popular seafood restaurant that I'm going to review next. We were just in time for a quick drink before dinner, enjoying the magnificent view of sunset.

Melon seemed to be more interested in the rose-coloured drink, but unfortunately it was an alcoholic one, so she couldn't take it. Don't you think she looks like a jellyfish in the picture? Pika's advice: Take advantage of the daily happy hours (20% discount) from 4.00pm to 7.00pm!

Bintan Sling Rp 155,000 (~S$16.40)
Taste: 5/10

Different from its Singapore counterpart, the Bintan Sling focuses on grenadine instead of cherry flavour. The one that I had that evening was adequately alcoholic, but it tasted somewhat like cough syrup. Considering that it was also a tad too sweet for my palate, I didn't quite enjoy it.

Frozen Lavender Rp 95,000 (~S$10.05)
Taste: 8/10

The child-friendly drink left a deeper impression. Having a consistency that was somewhere in between that of slushie and milkshake, the drink had a nice vanilla flavour. I'd definitely love to have more lavender syrup in the concoction, so that the aroma of the purple flower could be stepped up.

Peanuts

A good companion to the drinks, the crunchy peanuts were lightly salted.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The verdict: Singapore Sling is better. Talking about Melon resembling a jellyfish, I actually took a picture of her next to the signboard that warns visitors of jellyfish stings. Not to worry, our dear octopus doesn't sting; she's a gentle girl. :)
