SIN: Woodshed {CLOSED}

Lighter-than-air waffles and refreshing, fizzy signature drink!

UPDATE (08/05/2016): The café has closed down.

Life has started to get hectic again on my side, but I'm gonna try my best to update the blog at least once a week, if not twice. Situated close to the northern end of Rangoon Road is Woodshed, a cosy little café with wood as a central attribute, but sofa seats are also available for those who prefer to lay back.

A few all-day breakfast choices and main dishes are available, along with a whole list of beverages, including various flavours of Gryphon Tea. Pika's advice: Free wi-fi is available in the café. Not only that, you can help yourself to the newspapers and magazines while waiting for your food to arrive.

Full-House S$15.90
Taste: 7.5/10

While I initially sighed at the sight of canned baked beans, I managed to overlook that after having the crunchy toast, the meaty cheese sausage and the moist bacon. The scrambled eggs were pretty runny, but not so buttery and without any salt. On the other hand, the fries were sprinkled with a tad too much salt. The fresh greens could have more vinaigrette.

Unusual Fish and Chips S$17.90
Taste: 6.5/10

The first word of the menu truly captured my attention, but not exactly the taste. The batter was unusually thick, pretty much similar to something that you could find on fried chicken, but without being crispy. Having said that, the dory fish was tender, but it could definitely be moister.

Sweet Waffles S$11.90
Taste: 8/10

Ending the meal on a sweet note, I savoured the fluffy, lighter-than-air waffles, complete with chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, castor sugar and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. By no means undercooked, there was hardly any resistance when I cut it with a knife.

Woodshed Signature Drink S$4.50
Taste: 8/10

The glaring hot weather outside compelled me to order something refreshing. Hence, I decided on the fizzy sweet and sour drink. Among the medley of fruity flavours were those of berries and citrus that performed the orchestra on the mouth. Overall, it was moderately sweet.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The café's rustic touch made me feel at home. One thing to note is that the description of an item may not exactly translate to what's actually presented on the table.
