SIN: Modesto's

Oh-so-good spinach cannelloni, and aromatic wood-fired pizza!

There was a time when I frequented VivoCity, noticing Modesto's located on the first floor of the largest shopping mall here in Singapore. It has since relocated to the third floor at the sky park, which is a popular hang out spot. The brand has been serving many customers for more than a decade at the point of writing.

Amatriciana Pizza (Mini - 8") S$17.00
Taste: 8.5/10

As neither my BFF nor I wanted to have pizza as a main course, we decided to skip the list of appetisers and ordered one with pork bacon and onions as topping. An authentic wood-fired pizza it was, having firm, yet crunchy crust. The cheese was enjoyably sticky; it's certainly been a long time since I saw such a long string of cheese as I pulled a slice apart from its neighbours. Overall, it could be a bit sweeter though for a better balance of flavours. Pika's advice: For just an additional S$5.00, you can get the regular size, which is 12".

Cannelloni Spinaci S$28.00
Taste: 9.5/10

The homemade pasta rolls with spinach and parmesan cheese fillings were in the limelight that evening. Perhaps words wouldn't be enough to express how good it was. Soft and smooth fillings spiked with cinnamon met mind-blowing cream sauce that was married with tomato sauce, creating a delicious mess that was good till the last drop.

Risotto Pescatora S$30.00
Taste: 8/10

While the seafood risotto couldn't match the goodness of the pasta, it wasn't too much of an anti-climax. Cooked with squid, prawns, clams and mussels, the tomato-based Italian rice was delectably filling. Just like the pizza, I felt that the dish could be sweeter, but I had nothing to complain about the freshness of the seafood items.

Panna Cotta S$12.00
Taste: 9/10

Studded with grains of vanilla, the panna cotta (lit. cooked cream) proved worthy of a return trip. Slightly bouncy, yet velvety at the same time, it went really well with honey. The walnuts used were of high quality, and the strawberries and blueberries brought more colours to life.

Shirley Temple S$10.00
Taste: 8/10

Something refreshing would be good to wash down all the delish food. A concoction of lemon-lime flavoured soft drink (7 Up, not Sprite :P), lime juice and grenadine syrup, it was sweet and fizzy enough for me.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

On top of the highly palatable food, service was professional, save for the minor slip where one of the servers brought the wrong bill to my table. Modesto's, I'll definitely be back! :)
