FJI: Kai Time Restaurant @ Aroha Taveuni
Delicious Sunday roast with top-notch hospitality!
Everyone says that spending only 3D2N at Taveuni Island in Fiji is way too short. Nevertheless, I've never regretted the decision as I managed to visit the places I wanted to go. Anyway, I stayed at the highly rated, homely Aroha Taveuni that has only five guest rooms, all of which face the beach.
A main course ordered for lunch was the relatively healthy burger with quite a moist lamb patty, lettuce, grated carrots, cucumber and beetroot slices. To make it better, the bread could be toasted for a short while. The fries could be crispier, but they weren't soggy.

Lamb Patty Burger FJD 15.00 (~S$9.80)
Taste: 7.5/10
A main course ordered for lunch was the relatively healthy burger with quite a moist lamb patty, lettuce, grated carrots, cucumber and beetroot slices. To make it better, the bread could be toasted for a short while. The fries could be crispier, but they weren't soggy.
Vegetable Frittata FJD 18.00 (~S$11.75)
Taste: 8/10
Another main course that I tried was the meatless Italian dish of fried beaten eggs. Despite its looks, it was enjoyably cheesy and juicy. It might look slightly burnt, but the outer layer wasn't bitter at all. The accompanying salad was fresh. Having said that, the size could be bigger.
Bread
At dinner, homemade bread was served before the rest of the dishes arrived. Each of them was truly soft and aromatic, going well with the slightly salted butter.
Red Thai Fish Curry FJD 32.00 (~S$20.90)
Taste: 8/10
It was interesting to see something Asian on the a la carte menu. The Thai red curry did pack a punch, leaving me sweating at the end of meal, with the chunky mahi mahi fish used being fresh and firm. A small sauce of refreshingly sweet and sour salsa of pineapples, tomatoes and cucumbers made the meal merrier.
On Sabbath, the owner recommended the Sunday Roast Set Meal, priced at FJD 35.00 (~S$22.85). Without thinking twice, I went for it.
Roast Pork Platter (Set Menu)
Taste: 9/10
The meat of the day was pork, which turned out to be highly tender after roasting. The skin, without doubt, was addictively crispy. That was probably the first time in my life to have three different kinds of carbohydrates in one go - potato, sweet potato and cassava - along with carrot, pumpkin, green peas and French beans.
Coconut Meringue Pie (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10
The dessert of the day was a pie without any pastry. To be honest, I've got no idea about the exact ingredients for the meringue, but it certainly contained an adequate amount of grated coconuts to give it a nice flaky texture. Young coconut meat was used as the outer layer of the cake, which also came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 9/10
Overall: 8/10
Pika's advice: Even though the dinner hours are from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, you can request for an earlier timing if you wish, e.g. 6.00pm. A simple continental breakfast is included in the room rate. I've enjoyed not only the food, but also the warm hospitality rendered at the resort. Thank you very much for making my holiday truly memorable.
I wish I could just relax like that everyday, enjoying the view of the beach and the sound of the waves.
What a beautiful day~
I finally fulfilled my dream of visiting probably the only international dateline on Earth where one can feasibly be standing on. Pikachu was on Monday, Melon was on Sunday and I was standing in between. :P
