SIN: Fika Swedish Café & Bistro
A Halal bistro serving authentic Swedish cuisine!
Before I sign out for an overseas trip till 18 June 2017, I shall write an entry on this particular Swedish bistro at Beach Road. Fika, which basically means 'to have coffee', is a concept of having a break in Swedish culture. The city of Kalmar was the first to set a record where 2,620 individuals gathered for a fika on 6 June 2007.
What's Swedish cuisine without meatballs? :P

What's Swedish cuisine without meatballs? :P
Pickled Herring Platter S$14.00
Taste: 8.5/10
The elaborate appetiser platter of pickled herring, hard rye crispbread, cheese, boiled eggs, potatoes, rocket leaves, onions and roe spread pretty much blew my mind. The fish, which had soaked up the sweet and sour vinegar adequately, had a nicely chewy texture. There wasn't anything that I disliked.
Swedish Meatballs S$19.00
Taste: 8/10
While the meatballs might not look pretty, they were juicy on the inside. The outer layer was just a little bit dry though, but it was salvaged by the cream sauce and the lingonberry sauce. Accompanying the ground beef balls were rocket leaves and what I thought to be potato polenta cakes.
Fisherman's Pasta S$24.00
Taste: 8.5/10
The pasta tossed with lemon butter sauce and lots of garlic was certainly a good choice for main course. The al dente linguine came with springy shrimps, mussels squid and white fish, along with juicy cherry tomatoes and rocket leaves. Pika's advice: You can request for its tomato-based counterpart.
Kladdkaka (with Vanilla Ice Cream) S$8.00 (+S$2.00)
Taste: 7.5/10
To end the meal, my BFF and I decided to share a plate of Swedish brownie. We also requested for a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the dessert, which appeared with a 'wig' of whipped cream. While the cake was quite nice, it wasn't as rich and dense as I'd expected it to be.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10
The bistro also runs a bakery called Konditori, which is located at 33 Bussorah Street. Well, stay tuned for more reviews after I come back from the trip! :)
