Housewife's Broth 18.00 zł (~S$6.65)
Taste: 8/10
The simple soup dish typically consumed by the working class instantly reminded me of home. Having a mild taste, it came with shredded chicken breast, carrot cubes and handmade noodle. It was then topped with chopped parsley for an added colour and aroma.
The First Secretary's Pork Loin 44.00 zł (~S$16.25)
Taste: 8.5/10
I'm not too sure who was the First Secretary the name of the dish is referring to, but I enjoyed the tender pork loin that was paired with creamy fresh basil sauce and feta cheese. It was accompanied by zucchini, beansprouts, cherry tomatoes and roasted pumpkin seeds.
Wild Boar 'Zrazy' a la Tito 49.00 zł (~S$18.10)
Taste: 7.5/10
Here's a personal recipe of wild boar in mushroom sauce by Josip Broz Tito, the first president of Yugoslavia. Stuffed with bacon, mustard and mushrooms before being marinated in juniper and bison grass, the red meat was good, but not as succulent as expected. The seasonings for the sauce could also be toned down just a little bit.
Planters' Hot Plums with Vanilla Ice Cream 21.00 zł (~S$7.75)
Taste: 8.5/10
First prepared by the plum growers of a county called Grojec that's approximately 40 km south of Warsaw, the hot plums served by the restaurant were appetising, thanks to the sweet and sour balance. They were certainly made better with the two scoops vanilla ice cream dusted with cinnamon powder.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8.5/10
The historical atmosphere of the restaurant with chandeliers, portraits and flags is pretty fantastic. Pika's advice: Interested in Fidel Castro's favourite dessert? For just 26.00 zł (~S$9.60), you can sample an almond meringue with a dash of Cuban Havana Club rum.
