SIN: Mid-Autumn 2021 Mooncakes @ Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel
Do you love White Rabbit candy? I do!
Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Hello, folks! I hope all of you're doing fine and staying safe. Together with Pikachu and Melon, I'm back for a short while today to share with everyone the snowskin mooncakes from Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel as we herald this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, which is going to fall on 21 September.
I can't believe it's been close to 10 years since my very first mooncake post titled Mid-Autumn 2012 Mooncakes @ Grand Hyatt Singapore.
Assorted Snowskin Mooncakes S$76.00
The hotel promises of "gastronomical adventures with plenty of surprises" with the following four flavours this year: Cognac Truffle with Chestnut Paste, Champagne Truffle with Milk Green Bean Paste, White Rabbit Truffle with Cranberry Paste and Salted Egg Truffle with White Lotus Seed Paste. To my satisfaction, the snowskin was pillowy and chewy enough for my liking.
Cognac Truffle with Chestnut Paste
Taste: 7.5/10
"Perfect for gentlemen", the chestnut paste didn't exactly have that characteristic nutty aroma. Nevertheless, it wasn't too shabby as it was quite creamy and not so sweet. Enrobed inside each of the jade-coloured mooncake was a delightful Cognac chocolate truffle. Sweet and subtly bitter, the alcohol was pretty strong there.
Champagne Truffle with Milk Green Bean Paste
Taste: 7/10
Marketed as being "perfect for ladies" with its pastel pink appearance, the snowskin mooncake featuring green bean paste infused with milk was the sweetest among the four, though it wasn't overwhelming. Enveloped inside was a bittersweet champagne truffle, which was just a little bit alcoholic.
White Rabbit Truffle with Cranberry Paste
Taste: 8/10
"Perfect for the young at heart" like me, the sweet and tangy cranberry paste mooncake made me happy, not only because purple is my favourite colour, of course. The bits of cranberries added a nice textural contrast to the silky paste. Fans of the milk-based White Rabbit candy would rejoice at the truffle that, to me, brought back so many memories of my childhood.
Salted Egg Truffle with White Lotus Seed Paste
Taste: 8/10
To be frank, I wasn't so excited about trying the more classic flavour at first, but it turned out that I was too hasty to comment. Being so considerate of the sugar level, the white lotus paste was the most velvety of all. The salted egg truffle was amazing as the filling was rich and smooth, balancing out the mild sweetness of the paste.
Taste: 7.5/10
If you're interested, do get the mooncakes before they're gone by 21 September. Pika's advice: Durian lovers may want to go for Pure ‘Mao Shan Wang’ Premium Grade Durian Snowskin Mooncakes. Priced at S$88.00 for eight pieces, they promise of "intense flavour and subtly bitter notes ... [melting] in your mouth".
