JPN: Mikasa Ryokan (三笠旅館) [Breakfast]
Does anybody know the exact name of the roasted rice congee dish?
Following a sumptuous dinner, a restful night's sleep and a thoroughly enjoyable soak in the hot bath the following morning, the anticipation for breakfast at Mikasa Ryokan in Nara heightened. I've always enjoyed Japanese breakfast, where the symphony of rice, soup, protein and vegetables provides a nutritious and satisfying start to the day.

While apple cider appeared as an aperitif for dinner, it was the refreshing simplicity of apple juice that greeted us in the morning. The most comforting dish was the tofu hotpot, featuring a combination of silky tofu, enoki mushrooms, spring onions and kelp.
Assorted Stuff #1 (Set Menu)
The culinary ensemble included pickled vegetables and salted small fish, which served as flavourful companions to rice. Presented in the same box was a small bowl of refreshing lemon jelly.
Assorted Stuff #2 (Set Menu)
I enjoy tamagoyaki (Japanese omelette roll) that's not too sweet, and Mikasa Ryokan served exactly that. Next to it was a piece of sweet soy-flavoured kelp stuffed with salmon flakes. Are you a fan of kamaboko (Japanese fish cake) and umeboshi (Japanese pickled plum)?
Salad (Set Menu)
I appreciated the small bowl of crisp vegetables topped with adequately tangy citrus-based dressing. The cherry tomato was explosively juicy.
Grilled Fish (Set Menu)
The main source of protein for the morning was the lightly salted fish to be grilled on our own. While it wasn't as fresh as I thought it'd be, it was satisfactory.
Assorted Stuff #3 (Set Menu)
In addition to the rice and the same red miso (Japanese fermented rice, barley and/or soybean) soup that appeared at dinner, there was a bowl of roasted rice congee and silken beancurd bathed in soy sauce. It was my virgin experience with such a congee - a mild-tasting dish that, despite its subtlety, was comforting enough.

Thank you for the hospitality! Pika's advice: There's no option given for breakfast. If you're allergic to seafood, it's advisable to communicate it to the hotel in advance. I'm sure they can make an arrangement for you.
