COL: Wok

Indulging in delicious Chinese noodle with 'wok hei'!

You might think I'd dive straight into local food upon reaching Bogota, the capital city of Colombia. However, the very first thing that I had was actually Asian cuisine. Since 1998, Wok has taken pride in introducing a diverse range of Southeast and East Asian dishes, from the bold flavours of Indonesia to the refined delicacies of Japan.

Wok n' Roll COP 39,900 (~S$13.90)
Taste: 7.5/10

While waiting for the heavier dishes to arrive at the table, my BFF and I shared a roll filled with shredded crab sticks, breaded prawns and cream cheese. it was topped with flaky fish and sesame sesame seeds, and finally drizzled with teriyaki sauce. The combination offered an appetising balance of sweet and savoury flavours.

Rainbow Noodle con Camarones y Pechuga de Pollo COP 37,900 (~S$13.20)
Taste: 8.5/10

I was pleasantly surprised by how well the Chinese noodle dish was executed. The stir-fried noodle carried a distinct smoky aroma, generously loaded with a colourful assortment of vegetables, oyster mushrooms, shrimps and chunks of chicken breast. The harmonious interplay of soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil and ginger tied the dish together beautifully.

Nasi Goreng con Lomo de Res Marinado con Soya COP 45,900 (~S$15.95)
Taste: 7/10

Though it didn't quite capture the traditional flavours of fried rice from the archipelago, especially without the use of the quintessential kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce), it was a pretty tasty dish nonetheless. Alongside adequately juicy beef chunks, it featured some cashew nuts and, interestingly, a pinch of shredded coconuts. Pika's advice: For a healthier option, you can request for brown rice instead of jasmine rice.

Copon de Guanabana COP 17,900 (~S$6.25)
Taste: 7.5/10

Pardon my rudimentary Spanish, but the exotic dessert, loosely translated as 'soursop jar', featured an exotic combination of tropical flavours: the fruit I hadn't enjoyed in a while, cashew-flavoured meringue and ice cream made of copuazu (South American fruit related to cacao that tastes like a mix of chocolate and pineapple). It was graced with a layer of pink guava coulis at the bottom. Although I initially expected it to be overly sweet, it wasn't actually the case.
