COL: Andres Carne de Res

Possibly Bogota's wildest restaurant-cum-bar!

An iconic nightlife destination in Bogota, Andrés Carne de Res is truly a feast for the senses. Prior to my trip to Colombia, never had I been to such an eclectic establishment spread across five stories with 11 distinct dining areas, over 500 staff members and the capacity to accommodate up to 3,300 customers at once!

My BFF and I didn't make a reservation, but we were fortunate enough to get two seats at one of the bar counters without having to wait for long.

Empanada de Carne COP 6,200 (~S$2.00)
Taste: 7.5/10

The first snack that arrived at the table was the classic savoury Latin American treat filled with seasoned ground beef and onions. I savoured the crunchy texture of the pastry, which wasn't overly thick, enveloping a warm, juicy filling that was good enough to whet my appetite.

Chicharrones (90 g) COP 29,800 (~S$9.75)
Taste: 8/10

For something more sinful, we decided to share a small plate of crispy pork belly that was fried to golden perfection, delivering a satisfying crunch with every bite. They were accompanied by arepa, a type of flatbread made of ground maize, which had a soft, slightly dense texture that offered a delightful contrast to the pork belly.

Platano Asado con Queso Paipa Fundido y Jalea de Guayaba COP 32,400 (~S$10.60)
Taste: 9/10

My favourite dish was the grilled platano (lit. ripe plantain) with its charmingly lengthy name. The melted Paipa cheese, a local delicacy of semi-ripened cheese made of raw cow's milk characterised by its creamy texture and mildly salty flavour, melded with the ripe plantains grilled to caramelised perfection. Completing the whole experience was the sweet guava jam that beautifully bound everything together. Pika's advice: In addition to ripe plantains, they offer twice-fried unripe plantains called tostones with a variety of toppings for your consideration.

Ladron de Frutas COP 68,200 (~S$22.35)
Taste: 8/10

Served in a whimsical monkey head-shaped glass, the cocktail showcased Monkey Shoulder, a blended malt Scotch whisky, infused with the aromatic touch of Angostura bitters. The alcoholic concoction was blended with a fruity mix of passion fruit, banana and lemon juice to create a refreshing slushie.

Limonada de Coco COP 28,600 (~S$9.35)
Taste: 8/10

After indulging in all the snacks and alcoholic drinks, I sobered myself up with a non-boozy option: coconut lemonade topped with some coconut shreds and mint leaves. I enjoyed the natural sweetness of the ice-blended coconut with a citrusy twist. It was the ideal choice to cleanse the palate and cap off an awesome dining experience.
