COL: Origen Bistro

Cassava and cheese croquettes, anyone?

Opened in 2018, Origen Bistro in Bogota, Colombia may be a relatively young restaurant, but it's quickly risen to fame for its delectable blend of traditional Colombian flavours and contemporary gastronomy. The restaurant also exudes charm through its architecture, featuring Spanish colonial style with Andalusian influences.

Enyucados Placer de la Tierra COP 22,200 (~S$7.35)
Taste: 8.5/10

The local croquettes stood out, making them a must-try for anyone seeking a unique and delectable appetiser. Topped with cassava chips, the croquettes boasted a crispy exterior that gave way to a creamy, flavourful filling.

Blending harmoniously with the shredded cassava were coconut milk and Costeño cheese, a kind of salty, firm cheese from the coastal regions of the country.

Trucha al Ajillo COP 44,000 (~S$14.70)
Taste: 8.5/10

The pan-fried rainbow trout was executed well with flaky flesh and crisp, golden skin, making it a solid main course. Finished with aromatic garlic butter that accentuated the natural sweetness of the fish, it was accompanied with homemade potato wedges and a medley of vegetables, including carrots and yellow zucchinis. Pika's advice: You can request for cassava as a substitute for the potato wedges.

Punta de Anca COP 44,000 (~S$14.70)
Taste: 8/10

As a beef lover, I couldn't resist trying their house-aged punta de anca (lit. tip of the hip), which is commonly known as rump cap. The 300-gram slab of meat was served alongside the same set of potatoes and vegetables mentioned above.

The red meat was tender and had a decent level of juiciness. However, I must say that I’ve had a more naturally flavourful version of the same cut elsewhere.

Postre Tipico de Temporada COP 12,000 (~S$4.00)
Taste: 7/10

It was one of those days that we decided to take a chance by ordering a rotating seasonal dessert item without asking the server what it'd be. It turned out to be some kind of mild-tasting curd cheese topped with guava sauce that wasn't prohibitively sweet. While it wasn't particularly special, I didn't mind it at all.
