'Tie guan yin' and lychee are besties!
Welcome to this year's edition of our Mid-Autumn mooncake post! With just a week to go until Mid-Autumn Festival 2024, let's take a look at some pretty duo-tone snowskin mooncakes offered by Luna, a proud local patisserie that made its debut at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
Luna's mooncakes are on sale until 30 September this year.
Autumn Treasures Snowskin Mooncakes S$78.00
Luna offers four snowskin mooncake flavours: Smoked Corn, Yuzu Peach, Tie Guan Yin Lychee and Pandan Chocolate with Coconut Cream. The snowskin of each mooncake, measuring 6 cm in diameter, was slightly less chewy than desirable, but I found the fillings to be pretty exciting.
Smoked Corn Mooncake
Taste: 7.5/10
The white-and-yellow snowskin exuded a subtle sweetness and a gentle aroma of corn. At its core was a rather intriguing mix of moderately sweet white lotus paste and mildly savoury smoked corn bits that complemented each other pretty well.
Yuzu Peach Mooncake
Taste: 8/10
This particular mooncake offered a lovely fruity sesnsation on the palate. Encased in a white-and-pink snowskin was a refreshing fusion of white lotus paste infused with yuzu (a species of aromatic Asiatic citron) and peach cream.
Tie Guan Yin Lychee Mooncake
Taste: 8.5/10
My favourite of the four featured a delightful blend of Chinese tea and fruity sweetness. The white-and-brown snowskin gave way to lychee-flavoured white lotus paste with a core of tie guan yin (lit. iron goddess of mercy) tea cream that was irresistible.
Pandan Chocolate with Coconut Cream Mooncake
Taste: 8/10
The most striking in appearance, the green-and-black snowskin was infused with the aromatic essence of pandan. Inside the vibrant cover, the mildly sweet chocolate lotus paste paired beautifully with coconut cream.
