COL: Avianca Lounge @ El Dorado International Airport

Hearty pumpkin soup, but no Colombian food...

My BFF and I'd be flying back to Singapore via Istanbul, Turkey with Turkish Airlines. As the first leg of our journey would be in Business Class, we enjoyed access to the flagship lounge of Avianca, the flag carrier of Colombia, at the principal international gateway of Bogota. Who could resist a glass of Baileys before a flight?

Pumpkin Soup

To start, I savoured the thick, hearty pumpkin soup. Each spoonful was made even better by the crunchy croutons on top.

Assorted Stuff #1

For a boost of vitamins and dietary fibre, I headed to the salad bar and filled my plate with a variety of items. The vegetables were fresh enough, but what stood out was the couscous mixed with tomatoes and olives, and drizzled with just the right amount of lemon juice.

I didn’t have high expectations for the pesto pasta, but it turned out to be better than anticipated. It was complemented well by roasted vegetables and tender grilled chicken that was pretty tender.

Assorted Stuff #3

While there was nothing to rave about the cookies, I enjoyed the chocolate cake topped with pistachio crumbs, which turned out to be adequately sweet and dense. I also had some rockmelon cubes that were sweet, but rather bruised.

Beverages

Kudos to the lounge for treating its guests to natural blueberry juice, but the cup of latte from the coffee machine was so-so. Of course, I just had to ask for a glass of the well-loved Irish cream for a luxurious finish to the meal. Pika's advice: Strong Colombian black coffee known as tinto is available at the lounge should you wish to have a cup or two.

All in all, even though the selection was limited, I was nevertheless quite satisfied with the quality of food offered at the lounge. However, it was a pity that there wasn't any Colombian cuisine to be found, which otherwise would've added a delightful local touch in the flagship lounge.
