AUS: George's Restaurant

Virgin experience with Australia's Blue Heaven milkshake!

A trip to Victoria, Australia wouldn’t be complete without a scenic drive along the Great Ocean Road, they say. After soaking in the coastal views, our group tour made a pit stop at Apollo Bay for lunch. While exploring the options around Apollo Bay Hotel, my travel buddy and I decided on George's Restaurant for a fried seafood meal.

That was quite a heap of deep-fried treasures!

Fisherman's Basket for Two A$58.00 (~S$51.35)
Taste: 7.5/10

We opted for the assortment to have a little taste of everything. In addition to the deep-fried seafood items, there were fries, salad and coleslaw to round out the meal.

I particularly enjoyed the flaky fish and the succulent prawns, both of which stood out for their texture and flavours. As for the scallops and calamari, they could be springier with a touch more natural sweetness in the flesh. Sadly, there wasn’t any real crab meat, but crab sticks.

Blue Heaven Milkshake A$10.00 (~S$8.85)
Taste: 7/10

In Australia, a Blue Heaven milkshake is a bright-blue coloured shake made of milk, ice cream and a flavouring that gives it its name: a blend of vanilla and raspberry-like syrup. To me, it had a vague resemblance to the typical bubble gum flavour. Anyway, I was glad that it wasn't too sweet.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

For someone prone to sore throat, I was relieved that the meal didn’t trigger one. Pika's advice: There are more than just seafood on the menu, including a fairly wide selection of pizzas and burgers.
